Roku digital video player now can play Amazon’s Video On Demand (VOD) movies and TV shows, users can play any movie title on demand from a collection of over 40,000 movies. Roku, Inc., maker of the popular Roku digital video player currently has “Netflix Instant Watching with Unlimited Access” option, where users can watch any Netflix movies in their home TV. Now they have added Amazon VOD.

Roku sells a $99 Roku player, which the customer attaches it to a TV and using the built-in Wi-Fi, the customer can play any movie on demand via their broadband internet connection.

Initially, the cost of the set-top box and the movie options were a stumbling block but with Netflix and Amazon movies collections, Roku player suddenly looks like a much better option to have than regular satellite and cable movie collections.

Anthony Wood, Roku CEO and Founder wrote in a press release:

”We are excited to give our customers access to Amazon’s massive catalogue of top movies and TV shows – including many new releases...The launch of Amazon Video On Demand on Roku demonstrates our commitment to creating an open platform that instantly delivers the entertainment consumers want directly to their TVs.”

Besides customers can either purchase or rent the movies on the same released dates of DVDs.

Roy Price, director of Amazon VOD said:

“The $99 Roku player provides our customers with tremendous value and a compelling entertainment experience...Consumers are looking for inexpensive and hassle-free ways to watch their favorite movies and TV shows, and the Roku player meets that need head-on.”

Another benefit for customers is they don’t have to pay any subscription fees, they can watch it as they are available.
