Roku sells a $99 Roku player, which the customer attaches it to a TV and using the built-in Wi-Fi, the customer can play any movie on demand via their broadband internet connection.
Initially, the cost of the set-top box and the movie options were a stumbling block but with Netflix and Amazon movies collections, Roku player suddenly looks like a much better option to have than regular satellite and cable movie collections.
You can purchase or rent movies as well as watch your favorite TV shows from Amazon VOD service.
Anthony Wood, Roku CEO and Founder wrote in a press release:
”We are excited to give our customers access to Amazon’s massive catalogue of top movies and TV shows – including many new releases...The launch of Amazon Video On Demand on Roku demonstrates our commitment to creating an open platform that instantly delivers the entertainment consumers want directly to their TVs.”
Besides customers can either purchase or rent the movies on the same released dates of DVDs.
Roy Price, director of Amazon VOD said:
“The $99 Roku player provides our customers with tremendous value and a compelling entertainment experience...Consumers are looking for inexpensive and hassle-free ways to watch their favorite movies and TV shows, and the Roku player meets that need head-on.”
Another benefit for customers is they don’t have to pay any subscription fees, they can watch it as they are available.
You can purchase the Roku player in Amazon and at Roku website.

BeatsMe, yes, they can show regular TV shows but we have to pay for it either we can rent it or purchase it. iTunes also has TV shows the same way. Hulu.com offers free but not all TV Shows are available. In the future this will be a good option, I have Directv but watching movie is a pain, they put at odd times and most of them are repeats in movie channels HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Encore.

It can only play Amazon's vod? How 'bout regular tv shows? Are the tv shows also from Amazon? The ads from Amazon shows that this is very expensive.
But this can help new artists who put their videos for release in Amazon.
