There is no better way to describe Rolex Cellini Classic watches than to call them "truly timeless."

What I mean is that this particular design never goes out of style. As a matter of fact, the Classic models - part of Rolex's Cellini line - look like the watches my father used to wear back in the 1950s and 60s: very clean and simple.

Classic variants

Like all Cellini timepieces, the Classic watches have no date display and, like all men's models in this collection, they are hand-wound. You can like or dislike the hand-winding idea, but, let me tell you, the traditional design of these timepieces would be totally incoherent with an automatic movement. After all, if you produce a classic look, you might as well go all the way.

The best example of the "classicism" in this collection is a discreet, yet very elegant 18-carat white gold watch with a silver dial, Roman numerals and a black leather strap. It has no adornments, nor does it need any. It is just your basic, beautifully crafted Rolex.

The same model is available in 18-carat yellow gold with a "champagne" dial, and a brown wristband. Usually I am not a fan of an all-gold watch, preferring a cool and crisp look of white gold, platinum or steel. This particular model, however, is not too overwhelming, maybe because of the uncluttered design and a simple leather strap.

A watch with a black dial, black leather strap and just a smidgen of yellow gold looks more modern than the other models, while having the same basic design.

Not for the feature- (or attention-) seeking

You will like the Cellini Classic line if you have an affinity for simple and yet classy watches. If you want to have the date feature, at least a minimal water resistance, the automatic winding, and just a tad more adornment, Rolex's Day-Date watches might be right for you.

But if you are purist who favours strict classicism, the enduring design of the Cellini Classic watches will not disappoint. They prove that the quicker time passes, the more it stands still.
