Rolex ladies' watches

There are plenty of Rolex lady watch models for all tastes. It has simple women's models, dressy ones, and even a line of men's watches for women. Yes, you've read that correctly - men's watches Rolex says ladies prefer.

A men's model befitting for ladies

What's that, you may ask. Rolex came up with the idea of marketing men's Datejust models to appeal to the fairer sex. The collection is called Oyster 31 MM. Basically, the only difference I can see between these models and usual Datejusts is the smaller dial in ladies models - 31 mm versus 36 mm or 40 mm in gents'. Visually the watches in both collections are very similar, which only goes to prove that size really does matter.

For women only

As far as purely women's watches go (so far Rolex hasn't yet manufactured the converse - ladies' watches that men prefer, but hope springs eternal), there is, for example, a fine Lady Datejust collection that has many watches of varying degrees of dressiness. They are very attractive, but certainly not unique in their design. Some of the models bear similarity to the Classic line by another Swiss watchmaker, Ebel.

When I first saw the jewel-bedecked Orchid watch in Rolex's Cellini line, which is heavily adorned with diamonds and brilliants, I thought that surely nobody else even came close to producing such a sparkler. I was wrong. I see that at least two other fine watch manufacturers have a similar model in their collections. One is the appropriately named "Jeweled" wristwatch by Patek Philippe, and the other the "Haute Horlogerie" by Chopard. I can only surmise that some dames like the dazzling look of gem-encrusted timepieces.

My own preference, in both gent's and ladies watches, is simple and uncluttered, so I quite fancy tonneau-shaped Cellissima models in the Cellini line. I spotted somewhat similar timepieces in Ebel's "Beluga Tonneau" collection. The end pieces between the bezel and the straps of the Cellissima are not there in the Ebel model, but otherwise there is a resemblance

I don't know who received inspiration from whom, but this only goes to prove two important adages:

  • that beauty really is universal, and
  • imitation is the most sincere form of flattery

What a great site. I have been looking for information on a Rolex my 84 year old mother may want to sell, but I have not found much info on it. Perhaps you can help as your site seems to covers a lot about Rolex watches. Her Rolex was purchased in the early 1950's. It is gold with a small face. There are small stars(?) where the 1,2,4,5,7,8,10,11 would be and the 12 is the Rolex crown. the 3,6,and 9 are small gold lines. It came in a case with four leather interchangable leather bands. Although it is hard to read my mother believes there is the word Brevet and possibly the numbers 99267 (we are doing this long distance as she lives in Florida and I am in Virginia) on the bottom of the face (?) or back.
