Rollercoaster Poem by DJ Funktual
66DJ Funktual's Poetry Disclaimer!!
It certainly feels strange to put a comment box under a poem as I'm sure it must be strange to try and think of a relative reply. With that in mind, I would like to welcome you all to do me a solid and just leave me a smiley or something so I know you've been here. Thanks in advance. Yours truly, DJ Funktual
ROLLERCOASTER!!!!!!
Cricketty jaws and crunchy feet
lurching down into rusty metal boxes
to crooked bars for safety, clutching.
Thrillseeking freaks we smile horrified
and jerk forward suddenly aware
of the swift commitment to fear undertaken here.
An unseen hook drags us slowly uphill.
Facing cloudy futures we look down
as our past shrinks away, no help at all.
It is coming.........not yet but soon, though...
...all we've agreed upon....it's almost..NOW!
Squint sqeezing muscle locks and d r o p.
Like a dime - reason gone.....sublime...lightness.
There, dumbstruck on reality
our brains desperate to capture pure joy,
descent is cruel in quickness,
over long before comprehension and then.
Spinout into jagged cobwebs awhile,
expecting every nail in this contraption
of imagination we're riding to hold,
we plung into disappointment overkill.
Perhaps haunted by the predictability of survival
we lumber on to the next quick fix.

SMILE AND SAY HI!
Yeah, I was typing it right out of the notebook
and thought, "Shouldn't it be ADRENALINE?"

I like the d r o p -but still not a fan of rollercoasters.
This poem is on the same high quality level as the work of the great sci-fi/horror writer Ray Bradbury! -- Reminds me of Dark Carnival and Something Wicked This Way Comes and a bunch more.
Add Stacie's grammar/punctuation advise forum the forum thread and you are golden.
You should send the poem to Ray Bradbury as a tribute; he may write you back - I believe this is he (a Google search):
Ray Bradbury (818) 846-2365 500 E Fairmount Rd, Burbank, CA 91501
His agent/contact is confirmed to be:
Ray Bradbury c/o Avon Books 1350 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10019
He has no Internet access and refuses to drive a car, so snail mail it is!

Most of it's spot on, I like the pace of it.
Not sure about the Pure Joy!
