The Gypsy peoples
Roma are also known as Gypsies, Rom, Rroma, Romani.
The Gypsy peoples originate from Sind region now in Pakistan. Their Rom language is close to the older forms of Indian languages. The three tribes of Rom, Sinti, and Kale probably left India after a succession of campaigns in Sind through the C11, initially spending time in Armenia and Persia, then moving into the Byzantine Empire after the Seljuk Turk attacks on Armenia.
There is today no single Roma culture. Nor is there general agreement on who should qualify to be called a Roma. Romani groups around the world hold different traditions, customs and beliefs. Groups that have settled in one location generally adsorb some of the gajikané (non-Roma) local culture. Most Roma have converted the religions of their host countries, typically Christianity (Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Protestantism), and Islam.
Many Roma women, called drabardi practice fortune telling. But fortunes are only read for non-Romas.
There are Gypsies (or Rroms) in all counties in România. The first written document mentioning Gypsies in Romania dates from 1385. Gabor Gypsies in Central Transylvania, usually have fair skin, blue eyes, light color (blond) hair. "Tigani lingurari" or LINGURARI Gypsies. Lingura=spoon. In the past, some Gypsies of this group used to carve wood, making spoons, bowls, milking stools. "Tigani cãldãrari" or CALDARARI Gypsies. Cãldare=Cauldron. In the past, some Gypsies of this group used to make cooper cauldrons.
Officially, Romania's Gypsy minority is 470,000. The accession of Romania to the European Union in 2007 determined many members of the Romani minority, the most socially disadvantaged ethnic group in Romania, to migrate in masses to various Western countries (mostly to Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, France) hoping to find a better life. Florin Cioabă, the so-called "King of all Gypsies" declared recently that he worries that Romania may lose its Romani minority. The exact number of emigrants is unknown. In Italy, 60% of the 152,000 Romani individuals living in 700 camps are immigrants, many from Romania and the Balkans. Unofficial estimates place the size of the Romanian Romani community in Spain at around 100,000.

Tiganii sunt politicieni inascuti...pot sa obtina orice de la oricine...avem frica de ei si i-i uram...ca i-i simtim mai puternici....liberi...si madri de ce reprezinta...nu-i i-i intelegem fiindca nu-i cunoastem
