Many people want a romantic bedroom.  Ideas and inspiration are everywhere but when it comes to actually doing something there is uncertainty in taking that first step.

Many men are resistant to the idea of a romantic bedroom because the envision a fluffy pink and pastel interior slathered with lace.  It does not have to be that way at all.  A romantic bedroom, like romance itself, is very individual...different for everyone.

For some couples a romantic bedroom might be defined as a place that reminded them of a lake cabin retreat, while for others a European bed and breakfast might the atmosphere they are looking for.  It is important to sit down and communicat with your spouse what you consider romantic so that these things an be incorporated into your newly designed bedroom.

Your Romantic Style

What do you find romantic?

Some popular romantic themes are:

  • Cottage
  • Victorian
  • Old World
  • Cabin retreat
  • Tropical
  • Exotic
  • Country Farmhouse

Yours may be purely one of those or a combination of two or more.  You will want to choose your fabrics, colors, and patterns to enhance your style.

Add a Fireplace

Most people have certain things that they think of when they think of the word romantic. One of these is a fireplace.

With the technology available anyone can have a fireplace in their bedroom almost instantly with a hologram fireplace. The "flames" look very realistic and some of the fireplaces come iwth soundtracks of crackling wood and roaring flames. They do add quite a bit of heat to the room in the winter time but in the summer months you can run just the flames without the heat!

These fireplaces come in many sizes and styles, and start at about $225.00. They are easy to install. Just remove from the box, place against the wall, and plug in. Instatn bed and breakfast ambiance.

If you are interested in hologram fireplaces you may want to read more about them: Hologram Fireplaces, an Easy Ambiance.

As you can see from the selection available on eBay there is one for every style of home.

Color

Color is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to change the ambiance of a room.  Color has the ability to direct and manipulate the emotions so they should be chosen carefully.

Consider which colors you find particularly appealing.

Red is the color of passion and desire.  It is best used as an accent color because it can provoke aggressiveness and anger as well.   If you do decide to use red as a wall color consider using brownish reds and deeper tones.  Behr Red Jalapeno is a beautiful color for nearly any room.  Bright reds used in comfortors, pillows, and other accents add passion and spark.

Blue is a calm and peaceful color.  It can create a feeling of a country cottage or a Victorian Inn depending on the depth of the color used.  Paired with white it is clean and refreshing.

Green is a healing and a calming color.  It brings rest and relaxation to the room.  It is a luxurious color, the color of spas and other places that people go to be nourished and revived.

Yellow is an energetic color.  It is cheerful and bright.

Once you have decided on a  color then you will need to decide on the tone or hue of that color.  Green can run the gamut of sage to forest, and blue can be as light as the sky or as deep as lapis.   Behr has a free program on their stire where you can try out different color combinations.

Another way to choose which colors to use is to find a fabric that you love and pull the colors from it.   Use the fabric as curtains or comforter and paint the walls one of the colors from the print.  Use another color for throw rugs and yet another for pillows.

Sensuality

Sensuality is all about the way things feel.  To bring romance into your room keep the fabrics soft, blillowy, and drapey.  Stiff and formal damasks are generally better in a parlor or living room.

Depending on your preferences good fabrics for sensual bedrooms are:

  • Faux fur
  • Satins
  • Silk
  • High quality cotton
  • Soft flannel

Think of fabrics that make you want to touch them and feel them against your skin.  These are generally what you will be searching for.

A good way to determine if you want a certain fabric in your romantic bedroom is to close your eyes and feel the fbric agains the inside of your arm.  Is it soft? Does it feel good?

If it is scratchy or harsh then it iwllnot work no matter how beautiful it is.

More TIps for a Romantic Bedroom

Soft lighting is a must in your romantic bedroom.  Use amber light bulbs, or pink, or any color that is not a harsh white.  Candles, especially scented candles, add flickering ambiance and everyone looks good in candlelight!

Keep the t.v. in the den! Nothing is less romantic that a t.v. in the bedroom.

Use common scents.  No, not sense, scents!  Keep your bedroom smelling wonderful and fresh with scented candles, linen sprays, and potpourri.  Vanilla and cinnamon are two of the sexiest scents on the planet.  Keep that in mind.

Louie Armstrong's bedroom had mirrors on the walls, ceiling and floor! I wonder how many he had to replace over the years? And wouldn't it be odd to wake up with a all-around view of yourself?

Great tips. And good timing for me. I'm trying to think of ways to make our bedroom more relaxing because it becomes the catch off of everything. I've got a goal to be make it more organized and peaceful. We took the TV out months ago and that made a difference. Now I want to change the colors and maybe add a water fall or something.

Thank you.
