Introduction

It is pretty common that many people want to do something to show the person you love that you truly love them.

We often ask their friends what we could do to "prove" to them that we love the person, but usually the answer we get is, "Well, maybe you could buy them (suggested item here). They seem to talk about it alot." This day in age not everyone can afford that thing that their loved ones want.

Just because you can't afford these things doesn't mean that there's not inexpensive ways to show that person that you love them.

The Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is the perfect idea for someone wanting to show their husband/wife or girlfriend/boyfriend that they love them.

This idea is usually more effective for women, considering they seem to be a little bit more romantic than most guys. I'm going to share what I done for my wife recently on the eve of our anniversary and let you draw your own picture as to what you feel you may want to do for your loved one.

It was a typical Friday, a day that my wife usually goes around and pays what bills are due around that particular time. Paying attention to detail I've come to know that my wife will go to the more distant place and work her way home, I took a personal day from work and went on my merry little way to attempt a romantic way to show her how much I love her.

I go to the store and buy a pack of 3x5 index cards and then to the florist to buy a few single roses. I write down little clues as to where she should go and when and attach the clue to a rose.

First, I went to the electric department and took the first rose inside. I politely asked the woman at the desk if she could participate in the hunt. It's a woman so she automatically gives a warm smile and agrees to do it. She goes into the computer and attaches a note to the account to remind her. I instructed my wife to follow the directions without question that it was important that she did so and in the particular order. I told her to answer the question and to go to the next destination. "Don't you think it's time to go get gas before the price goes up?" Because we always procrastinate when to get gas and usually joke about how it seems to go up every 20 seconds.

Then I go to where she works and put an idex card in the gas door. When she opens it at the gas station she will see where her next destination is. "I tell her it's about time to go send the car payment off." She has to go to the post office to send it off considering that I hid the stamps a couple of days before and she was saying that she'd have to go get stamps. Considering we have a post office box and she will have to get the mail when she goes to the post office.

The Hunt Continues

As my wife opens the p.o. box, she finds that her next destination is the bank to make the loan payment.

Once she reaches the bank and goes inside, a friend of the family that works at the bank gives her a rose in passing. As she reads the card, she knows that her routine of paying the bills are through for this week, but her quest continues. Tired, but curious, she is instructed to travel to the place where we shared our first kiss. It was on pier 24 at the marina that she used to work at after she graduated high school. Fred, her former boss, meets her with an envelope and tells her that she car sounds like it may need oil. Once she gets out and checks under the hood, she finds another index card, instructing not to open the envelope. Knowing that she'll automatically open it, she is instructed to go to the park and sit at the third picnic table. She goes and as I watch her from the bridge she sits down and waits impatiently. I wait for a few minutes and send her a text message telling her that she looks beautiful when she's tapping her fingers. She looks around trying to find me. By that time I'm already on my way to the last destination.

I've parked the car at home and asked my sister to take me where I needed to go. I send my wife another text to come on home, because I know she's tired.

When she gets home she finds a note taped to the door telling her to follow the trail. "What trail?" She opens the door and finds rose petals on the floor leading to the bedroom. At the end of the trail there's another card telling that she forgot something at the marina. She forgot to go to the pier. At that point she's more than likely upset that she has to go back out. She calls, but I don't answer. Once she makes it to the marina, Fred meets her and tells her that she left before he got to tell her that she needed to go to the pier to receive her next clue. She walks down to the pier. I come out from behind the supply building and asked her what took her so long? When she turned I was holding the final rose. She smiled as if she was the same shy girl that she was in school and told me that I was going to vacuum when we got home.

The Payoff

It was tiring trying to put everything together and trying to keep her going on the exact path that was mapped out for her. But it was, at that point, that she knew what length I would go to to put a smile on her beautiful face.

The Conclusion

It's up to you to decide how you want to do your scavenger hunt. You don't have to spend a fortune, I spent a total of $35 on our hunt. Bring your own memories with your loved one back to life. Sometimes to move on to the next chapter of the relationship you have to reflect on the previous chapter.

The next time you want to do something special for the one that you love, give this a shot. You never know how much gold is at the end of this rainbow.
