Ron Paul is My Hero
49
I have this itch to write about why Congressman Ron Paul is my hero. It’s kind of odd saying that a politician is my hero, but he is no typical politician. He has integrity that no other politician has, he always votes in line with the Constitution. Senator John McCain told Kent Snyder who worked for Paul’s campaign in 1988, "You’re working for the most honest man in Congress."
I had the privilege of meeting him back in January. I didn’t get a chance to talk with him, but I did get his autograph and a picture with him. I looked at his eyes and they seemed sad. I was holding my baby girl and he looked at me smiling but, with those sad eyes. Maybe, those eyes were sad because he looked at my baby and thought what kind of future will she have? I often wonder that myself with me having four children.

In today’s society, especially with all the corruption you hear within our government—there is a light that shines in the darkness… "a voice crying out in the wilderness," if you will. Ron Paul for years has been warning us of a looming economic disaster due to our nation’s insatiable appetite for nation building and the fact that we have a fiat currency thanks to the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913 and for Nixon when he took the U.S. off the gold standard. Did you know that we have just over 700 military bases in 130 countries? Just think about the billions of dollars spent on this "military- industrial complex." And, we now see the results. Nobody has to tell you how the economy is, with the gas prices rising, as well as food prices. I recently read that some major retailers are filing bankruptcies and closing down stores. And, we cannot forget the mortgage mess. Things are bad, and it looks like it will probably get worse.
Yes, there is a "War on Terror," but shouldn’t all our troops be here defending our borders from another attack instead of protecting other countries’ borders and policing the world? Wouldn’t we save a bunch of money this way? I just don’t get it. I tell you what, it’s all about money and power in the White House—to think otherwise is naive. Do some research and follow the money, if you don’t believe me.
Ron Paul is the only one out of all the presidential candidates that "tells it like it is." My husband says he’s like your grandpa, but not the mean and crabby type. America needs to hear the truth about what our nation has come to, we don’t need to hear any more empty rhetoric about "change"—especially at time like this. "Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it's realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy."—Ron Paul

Maybe some day Ron Paul will run for president. Until then, I hope Obama is all he claims to be.
Good hub.
Thanks guys for the comments, I am enjoying this hub thing so far.
You just keep writing on important topics! =)
I'm all for a politician who's out to reform the government and will tell it like it is. My concern with politicians like Ron Paul are that they are using that as an image only, while taking half-measures. For example, has Ron Paul to your knowledge mentioned this?

My sense is that we have people dealing with issues that, when put side-by-side with the issues that are generally spoken about, seem important. But when compared to the genuine issues, are going to be totally ineffectual. This would appear to be selling people on the idea of elections once again, but my concern is that the nation established that genuine solutions by election were unworkable from JFK onward. We lost our innocence as a nation then; is there a genuine reason it should be restored now? I'm not grandstanding with this, I'm truly interested. And Thumbs Up either way - I think more people should be taking an interest in politics, particularly now.
By the way, welcome to HubPages! I hope you'll enjoy it at least as much as I do.
[Edit: I just watched the video. He's making some excellent and very much needed points. Whether he's going to go far enough with them remains my concern, though.]
Hi Satori,
I'll tell you this much... because of Ron Paul, I got involved in politics. I don't think he will be president and I believe he knows this. But, he is out there spreading truth of what our nation has come to. He is continuing to campaign because he still has many supporters and money to spend. With the particular issue you brought up, I am not sure if he has mentioned it, but he knows the media is full of propaganda. Also, the media has done a fine job marginalizing him. I am aware of PSYOPS, my husband is in the military, unfortunately.
momma's write; If Ron Paul has inspired you, and others like you, to get involved and start asking the right questions then he has already done his country a great service.

I agree. Dr. Paul is a great guy and now he is even a #1 bestselling author. I wrote a hub about it if you wanted to check it out. Great hub.
