Rosario Dawson is a 29 (soon to be 30!) year old singer and actress from New York City. Star of stage and screen, this caramel skinned beauty has featured in such movies as Sin City, Rent and Death Proof.

While she is best known for her role as Mimi in the musical Rent, Rosario Dawson is also a part of several charities:

  • Global Cool - an environmental charity
  • ONE - a charity focusing on international aid
  • Amnesty International - a universal human rights organization

Rosario has been nominated for numerous awards for her roles in Rent, Sin City, and Light it Up, however she has only won one - the 2004 Rising Star Award from the American Black Film Festival.

Rosario Dawson Movie Roles

Rosario has an impressive filmography, with a number of her featured movies being multi-million dollar hits. Rosario possesses a quick wit and a very crisp sense of humor. A talented actress, she shines in each of her roles and is not type-cast (limited in her roles based on previous performances.)

Here are my top five roles which Rosario Dawson has played:

  1. Mimi Marquez (Rent) - In this role, Rosario portrays an addict, an exotic dancer who falls in love with Roger Davis. Both are HIV-positive, and their relationship is volcanic.
  2. Valerie (Josie and the Pussycats) - Rosario adopts a more comedic role in this film, playing one of the supporting band members of this film adaptation of the Archie comics by the same name.
  3. Gail (Sin City) - Rosario plays one of the prostitutes in this dark drama based off the graphic novels by Frank Miller. Description defies the sight of her in this film.
  4. Stephanie Williams (Light it up) - A group of misunderstood and mistreated students hold a school's police officer against his will after a long set of bad events. Rosario plays one of these teenagers, this is one of her earlier roles.
  5. Becky (Clerks II) - Kevin Smith fits Rosario into the role of a quirky, free spirited fast food restaurant manager. This role let Rosario be part of a cheeky saga alongside Jay and Silent Bob, Randal and the gang with hilarity ensuing at every turn.

I wonder why these girls are so poor, even not having money to buy clothes?

Nice hub GG. I think I liked her best in Men in black 2. But I'm told I have bad taste in movies.

Although it was "controversial" having her play the role of Mimi, I loved her in RENT.

I wasn't aware she was involved in those charities. And I agree with rmr about Men in Black 2. I kept trying to remember where else I had seen her, and that was it.
