Yes, the Sharper Image went bankrupt about a year and a half ago, and yes, they have come back with a vengeance.  Do you remember back in the eighties, when the Sharper Image was the pinnacle of technological luxury?  I mean, some of the stuff they had was downright needless, but it was just so cool to have.  I remember this one thing they had with lasers attached to the speakers, so you had a miniature lightshow with every song they played. 

Now, Sharper Image has begun a new line of products that are very much needed.  Case in point, a series of iPod and iPhone docks including the Rotating Speaker System. 

Now, you think that the Rotating Speaker System would have speakers that would spin, but the name is actually referring to the prime feature.  It is a feature that really only works well with iPhones rather than iPods, but it is made for those who like to watch videos from their iPhone.  Essentially, the dock can rotate at a ninety degree angle, so you can watch the video in a sort of a widescreen format.  All at the touch of a button located on top of the device.  Granted, I don’t really watch movies on my iPhone, but that’s because I like them on a slightly bigger screen. 

As you can see from the picture, the Rotating Speaker is shaped sort of like a rounded square with a circle in the middle.  You need to dock the iPod or iPhone there, and I actually had to push the iPod in pretty hard to make it work.  By the way, if you don’t have an iPod or iPhone, the Rotating Speaker System has an input cable for all other MP3 players.  Just connect it to the headphone connector on the MP3 player, then connect it to the Rotating Speaker System.  If you do have an iPod, it comes with three dock inserts. 

Once I got it to work, I was able to get quality sound from the 2.25 inch, 3 watt speakers.  The controls atop it were the volume and skip tracks.  If you want to change playlists, then you’re going to have to do that on the music player itself.  I guess they couldn’t put that with the controls, but they really should, because they look like the iPod clicker wheel.
