Rotring were established in 1928 when they created the first fountain pen without a conventional nib. Their 'Tiku' or 'Inkograph' Rotring became the market leading technical drawing pen.

The pen was an ink pen which employed a tube as opposed to a nib which resulted in a writing instrument which wrote evenly, did not drip and did not blot.   Later Rotring went on to develop the Tiku which became the benchmark for technical drawing pens. Owners loved the refillable, capillary ink feed which gave a smooth flow of ink and produced sharp edged lines.  The brand has continued to improve and innovate in the spirit of it's founder Wilhelm Riepe.
