Intro to Rottweilers

Rottweilers are a great breed of dog. They do have a bad reputation, but that does not mean they are bad dogs. They are a large breed with a short coat. Rottweilers have tan markinds on their legs and face. A beautiful breed if I do say so myself. There are different types of Rottweilers, german and american. The german Rottweiler has a squarer head and bulkier body, usually shorter then the american. On the other hand americans have skinnier heads, bodies and are usually taller. They are purebred, but most people probably know that.

Some people would say that Rottweilers are aggresive and mean. It depends mostly on the owner. If the owner chains the dog and keeps him or her away from other people and animals, then that dog will probably be aggresive, that is true with mostly every breed and mixed breed. If you are to consider or have a Rottweiler please be a good owner.

They are great guard dogs or watch dogs and are strong and smart. A Rottweiler could probably be a family pet if well trained and socialized. As a companion for a small child I would say they probably would not be a good choice because they will lean against them and anyways a child probably could not take care of a Rottweiler since they need way more exercise then you can imagine.

As far as caring for a Rottie goes, it's pretty hard if you are a first time dog owner. They need a lot of exercise, not just a walk and frisbee in the backyard. Those are good activitys to do with a Rottweiler but I don't think that is enough, a long hike and and another couple walks would do the trick. If you want a Rottweiler to become a guard dog as well as a companion for you and/or your family then please consider an adult dog already trained, sure that would probably cost more money but if you want a good guard dog that is probably you best bet.

Only buy a Rottweiler from a responsible breeder, not from a pet store, the dogs at pet stores usually come from puppy mills, in case you do not know: Puppy mills are places that breed dogs only for the money, not for the well being of the dogs. They also have horrible living conditions. My point is research before you buy.

Rottweilers also need lots of attention, it is vital that you spend as much time as you can with your Rottie, they can become aggressive or shy, maybe even afrid of you. Pet, groom, walk, feed and play with your Rottweiler, (if you have one,) and he or she will become a great companion and guardian.

If you go to the dog park with a Rottweiler others may be scarded or intimidated because Rotties do had a bad reputation as I stated before. If you are struggling to convince your parents to get you a Rottie, don't despair, just tell the all the good things about Rottweilers. I think they are also banned someplaces so research about the dog breed bans in your state or country.

You may be wondering what names are good for Rottweilers, any name is good. But you can name a dog by his or her personality or apperance also. Rottweilers usually get their tails cropped so if your does not have a cropped tail a name could have something to do with the tail. If the dog is stealthy and trys to sneak away from you everytime you pet him or her a name like Sneak would be good.

I hope you liked this information!
