It's a parent's worst nightmare when you find out your child has run away.

Running away is a serious problem. According to the statistics at National Runaway Switchboard, one in seven kids between the ages of 10 and 18 will run away at some point. And there are 1 million to 3 million runaway and homeless kids living on the streets in the United States. Children runaway for several reason one of the reason are fighting with a sibling because you the child was angry or their feelings were hurt about the fight or and what was said to the child by the other sibling. Sometimes a child is shame by his or her report card and or is afraid of his or her parent so instead of going home confronting the bad marks on the report card the child might runaway. Other reason may include abusive parents or sibling always a constant flow of violence in the household may result to the child runaway, parents getting a divorce or separated and the child runaway and also cause their is another person replacing mom or dad in the house hold sometimes the kid never accepts the stepparent or new girlfriend or boyfriend.

Amber Alert should always be sent out with a photo descriptions alone sometimes doesn't help !

Sometimes the child runs away because the child thinks he or she is in love, or when some sick person tries to lure the child away from home to another state or area. Death in the family could also cause the child to runaway because they haven't learned how to deal with death or loosing a love one or a close family member. Something a lot of parents might not realize is that a new baby in the household could cause the to leave because the child feels left out, like they don't exist anymore to his or her parents mainly because the child feels like the parents are paying more attention to the new family member.

A child bothering my financial peer pressure by neighbors or fellow student can also drive a child from home, or a friend can try to talk your child into running away with them because they are best friends and they are dealing with things emotionally and can't tell anyone about it but your child. Parents on drugs or heavy drinkers cause of violent or unwanted behavior like sexual intercourse or sexual abuse with the child can also cause the child to run because or stress.

The child could be simply trying to get revenge on parent. Because the parent didn't get the child what the child wanted or what they think they needed at that time, or just plain bored. These are problems faced by lots of kids and teens but they must be taught how and when to deal with their problems a responsible way, a more mature way.

It is tragic how many children choose to leave their homes. I know many of them return or are found safe but so many are not. It is a difficult problem and only by listening and being aware can we hope to help young teenagers through the problem years.

I don't know if it is a 'fact' or not but it seems to be more of a problem in these days of financial burdens, single parent families and broken homes than it was when I was younger.

I never knew of a runaway child all the way through my childhood.

I think perhaps there are a lot more stresses on everyone, not just children, and in many ways we are losing the meaning of family and belonging.

As the world has gotten smaller the problems have gotten bigger.
