In recent weeks Russia has been active in reviving alliances with Asian neighbors like the Iran China India whose armed forces would be equal to that of NATO and the US. In fact last week Iran was invited as an observer to this recent meeting.

The posturing of both sides seems to be evident in the form of pronouncement and press releases from both sides. At this moment the US is preoccupied with Iraq and Afghanistan two war fronts which inevitably would end up like Vietnam . Meanwhile Russia is strengthening its alliances with equally emerging economic power like China and the resurgence of Iran into the world stage. The latter would equal NATO" armed forces combined.

In short, the US is spreading itself too thin compounded by the unpopular political situation in its own turf.
