SEO Techniques For Hubpages

By far the most important aspect of search engine optimisation for your hub, the title has two functions.

The first of these is hub's title itself, the wording that will appear on the sites listings. A good title will get peoples attention and persuade them to read your hub and not someone else's. You should try and put as many of your keywords (or tags) into the title as you can, while ensuring that it remains readable and makes sense.

The second function that your title has is that it forms the url (web address) for your hub. If your hub is titled my hubpages hub, then the url would become;

  • http://hubtopics.com/hub/myhubpageshub

The url is another of the ways in which a search engine will rank your website. The use of keywords, or tags, helps improve the rank of the site because you are showing that your keywords are relevant to you website.

Another way for you to use SEO techniques is within the main content of the hub. There are three things to look for here;

  1. bold text formatting
  2. underlined text formatting
  3. relevant links

When you use bold text you are showing the visitors, and the search engines, that the bold wording is important to your site. It is important to use this technique only for important information and keywords, otherwise you are going to dilute the effect.

In a similar way, underlined text has the same reaction. It shows visitors that you want them to see this text, makes it stand out from the rest of the page.

The last of the three tips is relevant linking. Some people will tell you not to link to other pages, but a high quality link to a relevant site will actually help you. A great example would be something like;

This link gives useful information to your visitors and shows the search engines that you are linking to other relevant pages.

Finding Content In Hubpages

If you're stuck for ideas on what topic to write about, and what keywords to use, try using the hubpages topics section. This section of the sites shows users what is hot in each of the different categories, helping you make an informed decision on what topics to chose.

Another option is to answer some of the requests that are posted. These are topics that people want to know about, they must do because they are asking for content in this area!

You could use these simple steps to produce lots of great, in demand, content without ever leaving the one site.

Zsuzsy Bee - great name by the way!

You can link to any site you like, but that wouldn't be in your best interests. You want to link to RELEVANT sites with lots of information.

Not just for search engine benefits, you have to remember that real human beings are going to read your hub. There might be some areas of your topic that, despite your best efforts, you can't explain as well as someone else can. Link to their site for your visitors benefit.

One last tip : I tend to use links that open in a new window. Hubpages allows you to do this easily when you add a link in the capsule, just hightlight the text for the link then click the link button, you'll see a little pop-up that has a dropdown menu for 'open in same window' or 'open in new window'. This means that visitors can open the link, get the info and when they close that window they'll find themselves back at you hub.
