First, I just have to say I love shoes. While I am not obsessed with them, as the female stereotype suggests, I do love a well made shoe. Well made, to me, means a comfortable fit, and one that moves with my legs and body easily without making me feel like taking a tumble or hurting my feet. And finding a pair that are stunning and cute and comfortable is just icing on the cake.

I wear a really popular size (7 ½), so if you don't get to the store the second it opens, you'll find this size depleted in a hurry, in which case you can get lucky and find the same shoe online, and sometimes cheaper!

Kelly's only solace from her wigged-out, dysfunctional family is shoe shopping.

I have to say, Kelly has great taste in shoes. I love those classic Mary Janes, and those little strappy silver numbers, and those pretty scarlet slipons - YUM.

So, can you buy comfortable shoes that are also stylish?

Certainly.

Can you buy shoes online without having first tried them on?

Absolutely.

I've done it a couple of times. The trick is to shop carefully. Sometimes you are sort of forced into it because you see a really cute shoe that you just love but it's the wrong size - Either too big or too small. So you search for it online. Sometimes other stores might have it and other times, you just have to bite the bullet and purchase them online without trying them on.

How DO you buy shoes without trying them on?

First, buy from a reputable site like major online retailers such as Amazon or from department store's websites.

Browse the customer feedback sections as well.

Before buying anything online (not just shoes), check their return policies and customer contact information. If they have an unattractive return policy or are hard to reach when you are just shopping, imagine how you would feel if you actually bought your shoes and had to return them.

Check their shipping policies. Most online retailers ship their products for a reasonable amount, and others provide free shipping to their customers. Also check to see if they provide the means for you to track your package.

Second, browse through the virtual shoe aisles and search for your shoes. Most online stores group shoes by type (sandal, boot, athletic, oxford, etc.). Once you have found a shoe that you like, check to see if it is in your size.

Some sellers also have sizing charts that show the shoe size and the length and width in inches of your shoe size. Some shoes may fit differently, depending on the designer, so read the customer feedback and if a shoe tends to run a little small, select the shoe in a half size larger if possible.

I found these cute shoes in the store but they're a smidge tight - Now what?

This actually happened to me this summer — I had found a really cute pair of sandals at my local walmart. They were black leather with little silver rings on them and a little wedge heel.

The only size they had was 6, 6 ½ and 7. I tried on the 7s and they fit lengthwise, but my heel lined up exactly with the edge of the sandal. Your foot should have at least ½ an inch clearance behind your foot. Plus they were really tight. I knew even breaking them in would not work. So I looked at their online store but none in my area had that sandal in my size.

Not to be deterred, I shopped online and found the same sandal (I searched by brand and style number) from a major shoe seller. They had the shoe in my size and I got it within the week, and it fit perfectly!

So, remember these tips when buying your shoes online:

• Check their customer feedback section - Are they easy to contact?
• Check their shipping rates and policies - Are they reasonable?
• Verify their return policies - Are they easy and no-fuss?
• Browse the customer feedback sections, particularly regarding the shoes you're interested in. Does the brand run small/large, etc?
• Verify your shoe size - Do the shoes dimensions and measurements match yours?
• Communication - Do they send you a confirmation email right away and follow up with you immediately?

Your online shoe-buying experience can be satisfactory, even enjoyable, and sometimes you can even find shoes not available in stores — You just have to know where to look.
