When I found out that ABS was going to do "I Love Betty". I was super excited, first, because I was glad ABS got the rights to do it, and secondly, because I loved the American version of this and was very curious on how ABS was to going to approach this apparently classic show. Were the producers going to go closer to its Spanish origin or lean towards the more modern American version?

I haven't seen the orginal version of "Betty" but I am an avid watcher of the American Betty Suarez. I fell in love with her and America Ferrer's portrayal of her. I wanted to see how they were going to dress Bea Alonzo. I have to admit that when I saw the shows clips via The Buzz, I was a bit dissappointed. I accepted the look but I didn't like how she portrayed the character. You can be a geek without snorting, which she did everytime Betty laughs. You can be considered a geek just by wearing braces, you don't have to overexpose them every single time you open your mouth, which is what Pinay Betty did. Funny enough, you can be a geek just by being yourself, which is how the American Betty was. She spoke and acted like everyone else, but Pinay Betty sort of overexaggerated it, for me.

American Betty was smart but Pinay Betty was sometimes super gaga. Lol. She panicked way too much and was clumsier than any character I know. I guess that's just how the producers wanted Bea to act, so I can't blame her. But in terms of acting, Bea is wonderful.

But OH my gosh Nicolas!! Does anyone else agree with me that NOBODY, even the geekiest person that I know, acts like that. You have braces and glasses, you don't need to SOUND like a geek too. Super OA!! (But I still love you, Vhong N.)

Lloydi as Armando, well, I just wished they used another actor, not that Lloydi isn't doing a good job, it's just that... well, before it aired they said that Bea and John weren't going to do another project together to give the team-up a break para hindi magsawa ang viewers. I totally agreed with them. Lloydi had an awesome chemistry with Sarah G. I was happy and excited to see who they were going to partner up with Bea. And when the commerical aired, in which the Armando character is behind the chair, then he finally reveals himself as none other than... John Lloyd, again. I don't know, I'm just tired of the two of them together forever. Besides, with Armando being a business man, I also wanted an actor that was maybe a little bit taller, Lol. But of course, as the show progressed, I had no choice but to fall in love with Lloydi again.

Ruffa as Daniella was awesome. Ruffa's height alone can portray a villain. But honestly, the first time I heard her speak, I didn't believe her. I still saw her as Ruffa from the Buzz, but later on I was finally able to differentiate the two personalities. Miss "GO!" queen does a nice job of being the villain of the story but it's still hard to believe some of her crying scenes, but I am sure she will improve.

Megan as Marcella was SURPRISINGLY perfect. Megan has such a pertty and innocent look but in a different angle, you can also see the evil in her, as Marcella. I didn't know Megan could act so well. I didn't like her when she was in PBB but I really feel for her as Marcella, even more so than Ruffa. I really feel the love her character has for Armando and the confused feeling she has with Daniella.

I can't believe they took Alex DeRossi out of GMA just to be a supporting actress !! I love Alex and I think, if given the proper project, she can really outshine many young actresses of today. But her role in I love Betty is so small it's sort of demeaning; deameaning because ABS borrowed/took her from GMA for a role as miniscule as Christina Larson. I wish any channel would just give her a soap with her as a leading role, that girl deserves it.

Another surprise was Wendy as Patricia. Again, I hated her in PBB, but you have to admit, she's very natural when it comes to acting. She delivers her lines flawlessly. I laugh everytime she's in a scene with Daniella. She just flows well.

Enough with the characters. Even though I said some negative things about the characters, with the show overall, I LOVE it. I love the character progression. Unlike Dyosa, it plays out the story right away, no stalling. The funny scenes are funny (specially with Vhong's lines) and the dramatic scenes are dramatic. ABS did a great job not copying too much from the different versios of this show and making it pinoy na pinoy.

So YES, i love "I Love Betty LaFea".
