Who is Sugar Ray Leonard
Sugar Ray Leonard is an american boxer. He was born Ray Charles Leonard on May 17, 1956 in Wilmington, North Carolina. Many consider him as one of the greatest boxers of all time and definitely the greatest boxer of the 1980s.
Amateur Career
In his amateur career won three national golden gloves, two AAU titles. For his olympic gold medal, he would win against Kazimier Szczerba, an opponent who beat Ray earlier and Andres Aldama.
Professional Career
He only became a professional boxer when his father got ill, his original intention was to attend the University of Maryland. His first professional fight would be televised against Luis Vega. He would first become world champion after defeating Wilfred Benitez. He would win his second championship on June 25, 2981 against Ayub Kalule.
Comeback
After this time, Leonard would retire and unretire several times. Notable fights include Kevin Howard, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Don Lalonde and Hector Camacho. In total he would have 40 fights, 36 wins, 25 of those wins by knock out, three loses and one draw.

Ray Charles Leonard was named after singer Ray Charles who's real name is Ray Charles Robinson. The music group Sugar Ray is named after the boxer.
