Sad State of Affairs When We Don't Want The President To Talk To Our Children

Both President Bush and President Reagan, in the past has went on the air and talked to our children and things went great. Yes, the Democrats, from what I understand, rejected this idea, back them just as the right is rejecting them now.

The Department of Educations has put on their website the subjects of his speeches to the children, and it appears to be harmless and possibly good for the children. Yet, everyone is afraid he will attempt to indoctrinate the children in his reformation that he is trying to do.

I have a suggestion for you Mr. President. Since your reformation and spreading the wealth system is keyed on improving the poor and underprivileged in the inner city, why don't just limit your speech to these areas. These are the ones you want to help out. This talk would be great for them, where they have a very high drop out rate, and low graduation rates. If you really want to help them, talk to them. Our children here in Iowa and Minnesota, in the rural areas, are having a very high 90's percent graduation rate, and many schools have seen a 100% graduation rate. We do not need these talks.  Our schools rank first and second in many studies on best school systems.

And why you are at it, study why we have such a high graduation rate. I think you will find such things as family values, personal self-worth taught to the children, and that sustaining from harmful drugs and alcohol to be a major factor. To simplify it, you could say it is our christian background, along with conservative lifestyles that bring in these results.

These conservative and christian reasons is why we do not want your liberal and Marxist ideas being presented to our children. We know your christian background with Reverend Wright. We do not want that here in the heartland of America.  Our school children lead the way in many educational principles.  Bring all the inner cities up to our levels and you will have done a great deed to society.

I'm glad they cleaned up the speech, actually posted it in a forum this afternoon. It should be inspiring for many children.

I dare to disagree Ed. This looks promising. Instead of blindly accepting all the garbage that comes from the White House, quite a few people started to question it! Good sign, if you ask me. :)

There is nothing left wing or communist about the President's speech to children. He is espousing the same educational ideals that your region is so lucky to already have in place. But many, many school systems in America and individual schools -- not all of them inner-city -- need this inspiring message.

I see this as a sign that America -- from the top down -- is getting serious about education again. Long overdue.

Good hub, eovery. MM

I agree with this our president should not be partial in decision taking especially racial discrimination. Because it only make gap among children which later on turns to community.

Maybe it is not so much the content of the speech as it is the fact that we seem to have 24/7 Obama on our TV, Now he has to take it to our schools.. He reminds me of the Lords prayer,

"give us this day our daily bread" but more like,

"give us this day our daily Obama"!

Someone once said " Politics is all about perception "...The reason for the outcry against Obama talking to our school children isn't so much the content of his message, as it is the insidious perception, created by his actions and statements, that he has a hidden agenda embedded within the speech...there very well may not be any such...but the perception persists...Thanks for an interesting Hub...well written as always...Larry

The bottom line for me is this. The original intent of the speech was to ask children what they could do for their president. That goal left me feeling very uneasy. If the majority of parents don't want the president to make the speech, then cancel. You work for us, remember?

jiberish, I am looking forward to reading his speach. It is just funny, that it is the day before his big speech to the congress. And why is he talking to the congress?

Misha, I agree it is good to question and look. But the President is an icon to the children. Every young child wants to grow up and be president of the United States. This is a big role model for children. But it is getting to the point that we do not want him talk to our children. It is sad.

Mighty Mom, The dems protested when Bush and Reagan talked to the children. Why is it all of a sudden okay for a Democrat to talk to the children? It is all political. Obama is getting his butt kick right now be "we the people" because we are opposing his left radical - communist plans he is presenting. He is after a rebuilding plan and trying to get some momentum back.

Clara, What can I say? His actions speak for themselves.

GreatAmerican, or as Breakfast Pop said. He was going to the children write "what they could do to help President Obama." so Mighty-mom, was this planned to be an innocent speech? Help him what, do his socialistic and communist ways?

Maven, true

And you nailed in breakfastpop!

I don't want a president to be talking to the kids at all. We have had such a bad spate of presidents the past several years that though we might not know what a mess they are going to pull on us before they are out of office, it always catches up with us. Once they're out, the truth comes out. Why have the minds of children got to be polluted by these bad actors? They have every reason to want to talk to the children. But we as parents have every reason to keep them from our children. Yes, they can enthuse them to continue their education and to tell the truth always...ooops, maybe not. Just like sports heroes, they can tell them how hard work always brings great results...ooops, maybe not, because you know how sports heroes are the very ones who have been taking drugs, cheating, to make them bigger and stronger, breaking rules, etc. So, no. Keep those dishonest politicos away from the kids is the best policy. Our kids will learn enough bad habits without being poluted so young by such low lifes. Don

I think you should reconsider your role models Ed. Having a politician as one does not do any good to youth...

Misha, I think you are right. But we have had great role models in the past, but since the early 1800, they have dropped off.

I think calling the president of the United States a commie is a little alarmist, eovery ;)

Bah. I was all for President Regan and Bush speaking to our children. (Bush Sr., not Jr.) I was also all for Vice-President Quayle speaking to our children. (For all the good it did him.)

Kids aren't automatons, they're relatively good on the uptake. They'll sort out the B.S. and the good stuff for themselves. It's exciting for a school and its kids to have the president appear. Sure, maybe he *shouldn't* be a role model, (nobody should be placed on too high a pedestal, Misha,) but he is. Let the kids / schools have their fun and excitement. It's a huge deal, he's just gonna tell them to be all that they can be and stay away from drugs and stay in school. So what? Isn't that what we want them to hear?

Nicole, it is nice to see you around again. You were missed. Hope everything is going nice.

I called his policies communistic. He has proven it by the people he appointed that are self proclaimed communists. Don't believe me, look up what Van Jones said himself. If it looks like duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

I agree with you that we should be able to have the president talk to the children. The kings and queen of England are on a pedestal. What girl doesn't want to be a princess and marry her prince.

The President that is the leader of the country that stands for freedom, liberty and all the is righteous is an automatic role model. We just have to get the government back to this state. Our government is not perfect, but I believe it is better than any other out there.

Nicole, the President's first agenda was not this. Because of the objections, he change his talk to the children. Why? Doesn't sound like it was originally on the up and up, and he had a different agenda. Everything with the presidency has become so politically. He just can't do anything straight forward without agendas.

An excellent Hub, as usual. I enjoyed reading it and you hit on a great point: Let's talk about why some schools graduate 90-100% of their kids. Family values. Thank you!

Thanks James,

My wife has stated being a teacher's aide at school. Some of the children come from some bad situations and are not able to embrace school. Therefore when you have a high portion of these kids in the same school, i.e. inner city, then I see where the problem is. They let the school down, not the schools are letting them down. And no matter how much money is sent their way, it will not change until the people change. The liberal way of doing what ever you want to do with no consequences are starting to catch up with us.

Sorry about the rant, but it is so important.

Great hub! I don't mind the pres talking to school kids to work hard and stay in school. I mind him pushing his agenda or pushing the idea that the kids should do something for "him" rather than their country.

Yeah, Madame X, Like I said, he needs to address his inner city, and Chicagoans to do better.
