About Saint Amelia

Do you know where Luxembourg is? Well it is in Europe, and that is where Saint Amelia was born in the year 741. Amelia's brother was named Rodien, and they were both taught to be devout Christians from an early age onward by their parents. Saint Amelia's parents where known around their hometown as being some of the most religious people around, so the fact that Amelia turned out so faithful is not a suprise.

When St. Amelia reached an appropriate age, she got ready to join a convent and become a nun. The only trouble was that many young men were very interested in her because of her outstanding beauty.

Ever hear of King Charlemagne? Well, believe it or not he was at one point obesessed with Saint Amelia. During his teenage years he wanted Amelia to take his hand in marriage more than anything in the world. Amelia wanted to give her life to God and this meant she could not marry, so she constantly turned Charles down. However he was relentless in his attempts to
change her mind.

Charles even accidently broke Amelia's arm, while trying to make her come with him somewhere. Although it was a mistake, Amelia was put into a great deal of pain. Her suffering was short though because her arm was extraordinarily healed hours after its breaking.

In due time, Charles would stop his attempts to gain Amelia's love and accept his religiousness. She would spend the rest of her life building and helping a church she began which was dedicated to Mary. Amelia is said to have performed many miracles at this church as well. One of which, entails her riding across a sea on the back of a huge fish.

Amelia is remembered as the patron saint of fishermen because of her past with fish, as well as the patron saint of anybody with arm or shoulder pains. Her feast day is on July 10th every year.
