Sales Letters: Creating a Letter that Connects with Your Prospect
65Do you know the most important thing about creating a sales letter?
To create effective sales letters, talk to one person, not masses of people (your audience or target market).
Let me tell you the story of my day today. My Achieve Marketing work day had a To Do List. I was surfing with my eye out for learning more about some of the marketing strategies I've been studying and beginning to apply: traffic exchanges, email marketing, "squeeze" pages, etc.
I clicked through to some of the sites that promote affiliate programs I chose to market for examples of their sales letters. I watched a video at one that's an overview of squeeze pages--pages where you are asked to leave your information, usually name and email address, in return for something of value. The person who put up the squeeze page is using this method to build a list of prospects. They will market to that list multiple times.
Then, i came across a GEM!I had an email from Mike Dillard pop into my inbox. I got on Mike Dillard's list when I signed up to get his book, Magnetic Sponsoring. Mike's email said that when he's asked whose work he studies, he studies Eben Pagan. On Mike's recommendation, I signed up for Eben's newsletter and got to watch a great video about sales letters
A sales letter is, from Eben's perspective, a web page in the form of a letter that gives the person reading it an experience of what it's like to talk with you and to learn something from you. Using a sales letter, you relate to the other person and form a relationship with them (or grow the relationship you already have because they are on your list).
You write a sales letter to talk with someone. You "speak-write" and communicate things to them. What you communicate is information they want and need that you have and provide.
Okay, are you ready for me to get to the point?!!
The most important element of creating an effective sales letter is this--talk to one person, not masses of people. Use a conversational tone of voice and talk to them one to one. Instead of asking this question: "How do I get more traffic to my (blog, web site, etc.)?", ask yourself "Who is my prospect? Where are they right now? How can I reach out to them right now and get them to come to my web site?"
If you talk to your prospect, just one, you will enter into a conversation that person is already having in their mind. You wil enter into their mindset (their needs, worries, values, concerns, desires) and you will connect with them. If you can get just one high quality prospect to your site and connect with them, you can automate and systemetize the process to repeat that success with more people.
First, talk (speak-write) with one person through your sales letter. Second, repeat what is successful. Third, automate and systematize.

You know what? It does make great sense to talk just to one person instead of masses of people in a sales letter. I'm glad you added that - it's a great tip and this is a super hubpage.
This is terrific information, Kate! It also shows how important it is to study what other's are doing and which ones create a response in You! Thanks so much for this!

I never thought of it that way before - but you are right. When we give a sales pitch in person we are talking with that one person - not many (usually). I always customize and personalize how I talk - so why not haw I write? Great point - Thanks
