Same soup warmed over.
54Headline: Chicago Illinois, President Obama, sends head of education Arnie Duncan and Atty. General Eric Holder to Chicago to talk to parents and elected officials about the year long killing of school students. This is a response to the recent killing of a senior honor student who's video beating was shown around the country.
Soup: These two gentleman were sent with no plan and left with no real plan. They promised to send money about a half a million dollars but how is that going to help. They asked for mentors but what will be the plan for connecting mentors with the at risk children.
The biggest mistake that they made was not going to spend time in both communities where the children that attend Fenger High school live. You see the children from Altgeld Gardens already feel not wanted in the community where the school is and for the Duncan and Holder to come to Chicago and not come to where they live and tell them that they will be working to make things better for them sends the same old sad message to the children that they are not important.
I know the the people in charge of the itinerary for both of these men sent them where they would get the best press, but I thought the goal was to impress the people not the media. I am very concern, we have been feed this soup before. Mayor Daley has not address the communities or visit them to try to connect with the people. Why?
Glad you asked, It is his idea to have these schools within a school and bus children to schools out side their communities. The children in Altgeld Gardens have a school that they could walk to but it was turn into a military school for kid that will be entering into some branch of the arm forces. It is only one-fifth full.
I am not just speaking my opinion I use to live in Altgeld Gardens and remember when we went to school were we lived. We use to have a great basketball program and many others activities. It always amazes me that when we had less we did more. We had less money and no lottery and in the schools we had arts, music, gym, swim, band and truant officers to find you when you were not in school. We had to know how to do some basic things before we could graduate like: type 21 words a minute with no more then three errors, how to sew a hem and bake a cake, that's right they call these things life skills. Today the children have to score on a test that does not prepare them for life but for the next test on paper.
If Chicago does not come together and work on this problem and implement some action the crisis will not go away. The big problem is that no one want s to admit that the current plan is not working everywhere and that we may need to make changes. Someone will have to step up and say that they are willing to work for the good of the children of this city as well as the law abiding citizens and not for the best press coverage and that should be the Mayor.
This is just one womens opinion.
