Man I came across your top 100 samples videos on Reddit this weekend and got sucked in for almost an hour. Great Stuff, but you totally ruined my productivity ;)

Don't know if you have done this one or not, but I have always thought Aretha Franklin's “One Step Ahead,” which was sampled by Mos Def for Ms. Phat Booty was pretty cool and a great sample...

Didn't even know I was on Reddit, LOL. I did the Aretha Sample long ago. Volume 5 or 6 can't remember.

DIRTYGARY asks this question. Track #9 " I see ya jay" by RAGTIME on the "DEEP COVER" soundtrack and track #5 "you haven't heard nothing" by DOMINATION on ICE-T's "RHYME SYNDICATE COMIN' THROUGH" both utilize the same beat which sounds like the OHIO PLAYERS "PAIN". I bought the OHIO PLAYERS greatest hits, but "PAIN" had no strong horn blast or baseline. What's the beat. Pleeze holla back, DIRTYGARY.

I'm an original Florida gal (Ocala, then Summerfield). Don't miss it (I have mtns here in VA).

Always felt like such an outsider; I always liked funk/disco/R&B/soul, and my superwhite family tried to keep me from "that".

I won.

Love your work, love what you have to say. Your joy is evident! I am shamelessly taking your example, and turning others on to the great groovy music that I know of...

Love that you have some K-OS in your knowledge base. If you want to hear other good Canadian Hip-Hop, you might appreciate:

Maestro Fresh Wes (really brought Canadian Hip-Hop to the fore)

Dream Warriors (My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style changed things up, but Day In Day Out always sticks in my head)

HDV (Honestly, Pimp of the Microphone makes me laugh every time I hear it)

Michie Mee (Jamaican Funk was a great track, but the original backbeat that she used when she performed it live on MuchMusic has always been my favourite version...)

Classified (If you can dig up the sample he uses in "The Maritimes", THAT would be impressive...accordion in a hip-hop track? Crazy!)

Buck 65 (Really changing things up and you either love him or hate him, but you can't deny he's doing something different)

Rascalz (Really Livin' got me hooked, and they brought us the Canadian Hip Hop Anthem: Northern Touch)

Choclair (Let's Ride is still a favourite)

Kardinall Offishall (On Wit Da Show!!!)

Swollen Members

Cadence Weapon (Again - another love him or hate him sort of thing, and while I'm not really a fan, I can't help but listen to Sharks over and over and over and over...)

Okay, I'll shut up now. Just listing all these Canucks makes me want to dig out my old tapes 'n' CDs...
