Samsung recently announced two QWERTY messaging devices - the Samsung Rogue & the Samsung Intensity. The Samsung Intesity is a slideout QWERTY keyboard targetted for the average consumer. It lacks the high end features of the Rogue but does a good job at all the other basic features.

The Samsung Intensity weights 3.53 oz and has the dimensions 4.25 X 2.08 X 0.65 inches. It features a 2.1-inch TFT display which has a resolution of 176X220 and supports upto 65k colors. Below the display, you'll find a circular D-pad, send, end, back, speakerphone keys, left and right soft keys. On the left side you'll find the volume rocker, a 2.5mm headset jack, charger/USB slot whereas the voice command key and camera button are on the right.

The Intensity has a 1.3 megapixel camera which supports pictures in five resolutions starting from 1280X960 to 128X96. It has 6 white balance presets, three quality settings - low, medium, high, six color effects and other basic features ike digital zoom, a night mode, a self timer, brightness,etc. You can also set sound effects for shutter sound and ready soung. However, the photo quality is not that great.

The Samsung Intensity U450 can play MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA music files. The music player is not very advanced. It has basic audio controls and also settings like repeat, shuffle, playlists, backlight and airplane mode. You can also change the skin of the player.

The Samsung Intensity is basically a messaging phone. The QWERTY keyboard makes typing long messages easy. The phone has a threaded messaging feature. You can also access your e-mails on the phone. You can download the Mobile E-mail application from Verizon's store which allows you to get all the e-mails from different providers to an inbox on the phone. The phone also supports instant messaging.

The phonebook can store upto 1000 entries. Each entry can have five phone numbers, IM screen name, two e-mail addresses, a street address and notes. You can also set a separate ringtone & photo for each entry. Caller groups are also supported.

The U450 has a mobile web browser which supports WAP 2.0. It also has GPS feature and supports Verizon's VZ Navigator. Other features include USB mass storage, voice commands and stereo bluetooth.

The phone has an inbuilt memory of 128 MB which can be expanded upto 16 GB using an external microSD card. The Intensity uses a standard Li-Ion 960 mAh battery with a talktime of 3 hours and standby time of 300 hours. Other basic features of the phone are alarm, calender, calculator, speaker phone, stopwatch, world clock, converter, tip calculator and much more.

The Samsung Intensity is exclusively available on Verizon. You can get the Intensity for free from TmiWireless with a 2 year contract. You can also upgrade your existing contract free of cost. After Letstalk mail-in rebate, you stand to make $50 on this deal.
