Samsung Blackjack : An exemplar of cutting-edge innovation

Cingular seems to be revolutionizing the telecommunications sector with its exquisite range of cutting-edge smart phones. Samsung Blackjack (Samsung SGH-i607) is the most recent pioneering innovation from Cingular; next in line to Nokia E62, the HP iPaq hw6925, and the 3G-enabled Cingular 8525.

The BlackJack features a sleek, narrower design and is incorporated with an extensive array of multimedia capabilities such as streaming music and video. Samsung BlackJack is Cingular's second UMTS/HSPDA smart phone; UMTS and HSPDA refer to 3G technologies which render broadband-like connection speeds to mobile devices. Cingular's UMTS/HSDPA network or Broadband Connect ensures a better web browsing experience, capability to listen to streaming media, as well as downloading games. The BlackJack also supports the Cingular Video and Cingular Music services. Cingular Video enables you to watch trailers of The Daily Show, Access Hollywood, ESPN sports highlights, and numerous other videos. Cingular Music allows you to purchase songs from independent music services including Napster to Go, Yahoo Music, streaming XM satellite radio, music videos, MusicID for identifying song titles and artists, and a music news site called The Buzz. You can also import your personal library of music files namely; MP3, AAC, WAV, WMA, MPEG-4, and WMV files via MicroSD card with the help of Windows Media Player 10 Mobile.

The BlackJack is equipped with an application called Picsel Viewer Suite, which enables you to open and view Word and Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs. The smartphone is integrated with numerous other tools such as a calendar; contacts lists; task lists; other notes; a voice recorder; a calculator; a stopwatch; a world clock; and a unit converter. The BlackJack helps you to access corporate and personal e-mail and supports instant messaging via AOL, MSN, and Yahoo as well as text and multimedia messages. The push technology for real-time e-mail delivery is rendered via several services such as Microsoft Direct Push, Good Mobile Messaging, and Cingular XpressMail.

The BlackJack is also a quad-band world phone which could be used in more than 180 countries. It also includes a speakerphone and supports three-way calling, and conference calling. The phone hosts a vast array of MP3 ring tones which you can always download through the Web. The BlackJack is integrated with Bluetooth 2.0. However, there is no integrated Wi-Fi, which is a little disappointing for customers outside of Cingular's 3G network.

The smart phone is well-equipped with a 1.3-megapixel camera, supported with video recording capabilities and a 2X digital zoom lens and self timer. You have the choice of shooting in different modes and multiple resolutions ranging from 1,280x960 to 176x144 for still images. The Samsung BlackJack reportedly has 5.5 hours of talk time and up to 11 days of standby time. Available at $300 (with a two-year contract from Cingular), the BlackJack is truly worth the money!
