San Francisco kid friendly tourist spots
66Alcatraz
You can't go to San Fran w/o visiting Alcatraz! It is a great historical prison with many great stories hiden in the walls... My first visit to Alcatraz wasn't in person.. it was in a video game and also a movie.. What I did the day before visiting, I did a Alacatraz movie-thon (watching movies like the Rock with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery) So when I first stepped on to The Rock. I was awe- struck! The best part was the fact that it was beautiful and educational!
Fisherman's Wharf
Another great historical place to go to is Fisherman's Wharf and if you go to Alcatraz.. this is where you start your journey! On Fisherman's Wharf you will find a tons of different cruises around San Fran, dining, shops, street vendors and lots of seals (which the kids love!) My personal favorite thing to do is to come to watch the street performers.. I have seen everything from breakdancing to statue people to Jazz singers to just people playing instruments! I could sit for hours watching them! Also don't forget to get some salt water taffy in one of the many shops there!! I will warn you though.. it is rich in history, but it is one huge tourist trap! I always spend money there!
Coit Tower
Coit Tower is another popular spot. When you get to the top, you will see a magnificent view of San Francisco! The Archetechture is beautiful and the murals are fascinating.. I do have to warn you.. San Fran's weather can make or break this experience.. the wind is cold and the fog.. well if you don't plan right.. you may see nothing at all..
Lombard Street
Another favorite destination.. I mean who can stop themselves from driving down this steep and windy road. I will warn you that the traffic is horrendious at times. The best way to view this street is to take the cable car up to see a great view of the street, Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz! I personally braved this trip in my car, which is impossible to do in some vehicles, and it was awesome! So as far as doing something cool for the kids.. this is one of them! Just watch the one way streets of San Fran..they are sooo confusing!
Cable Cars
Every one has seen them in the Rice a roni commercials and old movies.. You kids are gonna love to be able to ride in a cable car personally! It is a lot of fun to ride in and a great way to not deal with the busy traffic! So leave your car and your worries at home (and help the environment a little at the same time)!
