Satellite Radio: FM Modulator
57The FM transmitter is an electronic device whose main purpose is to play the satellite radio receiver with the help of the FM stereo of your vehicle. It can also be employed to play digital auditory devices such as MD players, CDs or iPods.
However, it is a very simple and fast method to play your satellite radio receiver in your car; still it is generally given a second preference due to its sound quality, when compared with an audio cassette adopter.
Though it is also a last option to be preferred by many listeners, at least it is a solace for those who are fond of listen to FM or for others who do not have a CD player in their car.
Working of an FM modulator
Nevertheless, it can also be called a degradation of devices by those who are fond of these satellite radios and receive good signals by using FM modulator.
However, there is nothing that can deny the fact that the use of an FM modulator does degrade the audio quality of your satellite radio receiver, as it converts the signals of your satellite receiver into the FM signals, which are further transmitted into an original FM frequency that the listener chooses to listen.
Forms of modulator
There are two forms of modulators:
1. Wireless modulator - This modulator is converted into a power adopter, which is then connected to a cigarette lighter socket, and cradle that contains plug-and-play receiver. Sometimes, it is also directly connected to the receiver. The audio output of the receiver is transmitted on air to any original FM frequency. It can easily be installed and configured and is very convenient. But, its signals are quite weak, are prone to fade, and caters to only a short-range.
2. Hardwired modulator - It is placed between the antenna and the stereo unit of the vehicle, and directly connects to the antenna socket of the stereo's FM. This ensures an improved frequency response along with a signal that has minimum interference.
It is better to call a professional for its installation as the connection with electrical system and antenna socket, that is required are all placed at the back of the dashboard.
The interference in your signals can be due to, your geographical location in USA, type and broadcast of the modulator, along with in-built tuner in your vehicle. For instance, if anyone uses a wireless modulator in a metropolitan city will have poor reception of signals due to interference from other radio channels.
Though depending upon the circumstances, hardwired modulators can prove to be equally better when compared with cassette adaptors.
Enjoy your satellite radio!
