Do you want to be in fashion but don’t have a lot of money to spend hit your Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift store and look for things that are of the fashion colors for 2009. If you don’t want to go the thrift route try adding one or two pieces of clothing on sale that you can use with thing you already have that are in the this season’s hottest colors. Match a nice solid colored blouse in one of the season’s hot colors with a black pair of pants or skirt that you already own. Invest in a vest or all season blazers in one of these colors and wear it with a print that you already have that has some of the same hues. You will be in vogue without breaking the bank.
Some of this season’s hottest colors are beige, light gray, subdued reds, earthy toned yellows, earth toned oranges, and variations on plum. Soft pinks and fuchsia are still acceptable as they were through the summer. Metallic’s as accents and for dress up wear are now all the rage. This is a good thing because if you go to your thrift store you can find holiday wear that was cast aside last season that is metallic and usually of a lighter weight fabric that you can get away with this fall. The same is true for hand bags and shoes. Those gold slippers someone wore last New Year’s Eve not can be matched with an earth toned empire waited blouse and a pair of jeans. Again if the second hand store is not your thing check the ladies slipper selection at your local discount store. Ballet slippers with bows made out of velveteen or metallic materials can be worn with just about anything this season. Check online suede ballet type shoes will set you back a couple of hundred bucks. Velveteen or metallic ballet style house shoes can give you the same look for about twenty dollars.
So you can be in fashion this fall if you make some strategic decisions about what you purchase and where. No one will know, but you that your great new fashion looks for fall were such a bargain.

The new year will bring a mix of the familiar (Forever 21 and home shopping networks) and the new (Brazil-mania and Alice in Wonderland tie-ins). In the world of fashion and style, the calendar flip to a new year is something akin to getting the key to a brand-new, bare-to-the-walls walk-in closet right next to the one we just finished filling up. What goes into the new space depends a lot (but ...
