Save Gas with Basic Vehicle Maintenance

  • Rotate all 4 tires on a regular basis
  • Replace worn tires with new ones - new tires are safer and help with gas saving as well.
  • Get tune-ups 3-4x per year
  • Change the oil regularly - and use oil suited to your climate
  • Check and clean air filters
  • Be sure the gas cap fits tightly.
  • Keep the transmission fluid at the correct level and replace as required
  • Any smoke from the exhaust means you need to see a mechanic - and soon!
  • Ensure that your cooling system thermostat is working properly.

Gas Saving Tips

Basic Driving Gas Saving Tips

Driving more sensibly can really help you save gas. Here are a few things to keep in mind about how to save gas while driving.

  1. Aggressive driving, like accelerating and braking to fast wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent! (3 wasted gallons out of every 10 you buy!)
  2. Observe speed limits! Gas mileage drops quickly at speeds that are above 60 mph. For every 5 mph over 60 mph is the same as paying an extra 10 cents per gallon.
  3. Cruise control on the highway helps you to keep a constant speed which saves gas.
  4. Starting and stopping your engine uses less gas than idling, so turn off your engine at street lights or trains.
  5. Try and join all of your trips and errands to reduce driving time and gas.
