Save Gas = Save Money
56How You Can Save Yourself A Fortune Despite High Oil Prices
Gas prices are going through the roof. There is no relief in sight. Economists say that the price rising trend will continue. You know it is already affecting you . Imagine how it affects the whole population of the world, particularly poor countries.
With steep increase in transportation cost, people are forced to pay a very heavy prices even for eating food which may be otherwise cheap. The situation is fueling inflation and recession almost everywhere.
We should only compare ourselves to the lives of less-fortunate people and be grateful that we could still afford gas.
Scientists have always been working on a better solution. And a day may come (not in our life time of course) when oil will be replaced by something else. Already some experiments have been successful. But there are difficulities in mass commerical production.
Every individual can save some gas everyday by following some no-cost measures. Discipline is the key. For example, we keep the car idling, sometimes for more than five minitues. Gas is consumed even during idling. If you know for sure that you may have to wait at a traffic junction for mor than two minitutes, just switch off the engine. Every little bit of oil saved accumulates to a huge saving over a period.

Hypermiling - Time-tested Techniques to Save on Gasoline
What is hypermiling? Hypermiling is a set of gas saving techniques to maximize fuel efficiency. The word 'hypermiling' was coined in 2000 when gas prices were on the rise. If you are already following these techniques you are a 'hypermiler'.
Did you know that making minor changes in your driving habits can result in major savings in fuel? Will you be willing to make those minor changes to your driving habits - that is in your mind? Yes, that's all this costs - your cooperation.
Hypermiling can be implemented in any vechicle regardless of its fuel economy. When you practice these simple rules, you not only save fuel but also let the car stay in great shape as an additional benefit.
You know small savings over time lead to great savings. Imagine you manage to save thousands of dollars this year, that money can be used to maintain your car or for your purchases. Imagine living a better lifstyle with higher standards of living. Does't that prompt you for some action?
Okay. Let me start giving away the tips for you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DON'Ts
1. Don't do "jack-rabitting" (start suddenly & then stop driving). Consumes more fuel.
2. Don't go on a "coasting" ride (driving with engine off to take advantage of gravity). With coasting to save on gas, there may be legal issues when you go too slow. And if you suddenly switch on the engine to catch up with the green light during your coasting, all energy saved during coasting will be neutralized.
3. Don't follow all the tips given on some websites blindly. Some are out-dated and some have been proven to be false. Some are partially true - applicable under certain conditions only. Refer to government websistes or forums for latest information.This site is giving you information only after thorough research of reliable resources. You are welcome to write your comments. Best of all test your rides before practicing hypermiling and after hypermiling (for the same route) by recording your MPG.
4. Avoid using brake when possible. Why waste energy by braking it unnecessarily?.
5. Don't switch off air-conditioner believing that it would save gas. Cutting down on air-conditioner usage is not always the right solution. When windows are down the car develops a drag (because of the incoming air from all sides) which in turn eats up more gas. This practically wipes off savings gained by switching off air-conditioning. Again, when to switch off and when not to depends on several individual factors - like the stretch of road you are going to take, climatic conditons, duration of the drive, road conditon, etc.
Note This...
- Clean air filters do not save on gas. But filters that have become dirty would certainly rob car power.
- Your cruise control saves gas.
- GPS can help you save gas, time and efforts.
- Idlying consumes gas. Swith off engine when you don't need car for more than two minutes.
Developing New Habits Result in More Bucks
- Always note down your gas mileage after each visit to the pump.Start recording your gas mileage. That will show you how much you are progressing and saving.
- Check and maintain the right tire pressure.
- Do not keep the engine idlying for a long time (over 2")
- Drive at recommended constant speed of your vehicle when possible.
Can Your Car Run on Water? ---> Some Scams Exposed
You might have come across advertisements regarding running your car on water. There are websites which religiously promote this un-proven method. They of course can show you tons of "scientific documents" to prove their case.
On the face of it these advertisements are very convincing. Everyone knows water contains two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen (H2O - HHO) which can be separated by electricity. People also know hydrogen is a very powerful fuel.
The truth about those data is that those experiments were done once-upon-a- time under laboratory conditions. They are not appliable to real-time situations today.
Is the government supporting them? If not, why? Think about it.
Even if there was indeed some tiny saving in gas, it may not justify the expenses and efforts.What about possisble damages to latest engines?
I have pointed out this in my blog.
I shall also give you other resources from real established experts. Read what they say. These articles are from technological magazines.
Hypermiling is not abosolutely a new term. Of course you will not find it in the dictionary. The word was coined, I think, sometime in 2000 when gas prices were climbing up. Since then there are quite a few successful and faithful followers. There are some hypermiling forums on the Internet whee you can ask questions and share your views and observations. Anyway if gas is saved to that extent the demand is reduced. If everyone mimimized oil consumption and brought down the demand even oil prices have to fall.
