Which light bulbs should I use to save energy and money

Use energy-efficient and energy saving light bulbs in your home. Here you have following options:

1) Use compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). Compact fluorescents use from about one quarter to one third as much energy to produce the same amount of light as a standard incandescent bulb, and they also last longer.

2) Use three-way bulbs. These bulbs can operate at three different wattages (e.g. 50 watts, 100 watts, and 150 watts), allowing you to choose the lowest wattage for your needs.

3) Use low-wattage bulbs. Always use the lowest wattage that will meet your needs.

4) Use energy-saving nightlights.

What are some simple ways to save energy and money on lightening home?

1) Turn off lights when not in use. It just can’t simple than this. Turning off lights when not used is the simplest and most common-sense solution that can result in significant energy savings. For e.g. if a 100-watt light bulb is left on for a couple hours everyday, it can comprise up to 2-3 percent of your overall monthly lighting bill. Just switch it off when you leave the room.

2) Remove all dust from light bulbs. Consider a tube light, CFL or light bulb with lots of dust on it. Will it give the same light as a clean bulb? NO. A dusty bulb is an inefficient bulb. Get out the dust rag to get more light.

3) Don't use lights and bulbs in your entire room. Choose lighting that meets your specific needs.

4) Light color reflects more light than darker colors. Choose light color paints that have high reflective values when painting your walls. This allows you to use lower-wattage light bulbs in your home.

5) Place lamps in corners that will reflect more light in the entire room.

6) Use daylighting techniques to use natural light for illumination. Arrange your home furniture to maximize natural light enter your home. This will help not to use light bulbs during daytime.

7) Take care of outdoor lighting which are often left on unnecessarily.

CFL's contain mercury the most toxic metal on the planet. So should we pollute our planet in the name of energy savings? http://hubpages.com/hub/Energy-Efficient-Light-Bul Mandating energy policy before technology is ready is a huge mistake.

CFL's have been know to trigger epileptic seizures in those susceptible.

CFL's do not last anywhere near as long as the manufacturers claim. I quit using them after learning of the mercury problem, but even so I never had one last for more than a year.

CFL's take time to warm up. If you have to use an energy bulb... then use and LED until better technology comes along.
