Hmm... well... the paper is bio-degradable. The coffee grounds actually help promote composting. Throwing away coffee that is unused is a waste, so brewing a single cup saves environmental resources.
An ink jet printer has none of those features.
Have you ever watched someone try to re-fill an ink jet printer cartridge? Not pretty, even if it works after the up-teenth attempt.
The one cup coffee maker genre is extremely popular in offices. It was even featured on a recent episode of Castle as a way to save money (cheaper than Starbucks) and time (no need to leave the office to go to Starbucks).
Doomed to failure? Possibly not. Check this article out: http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Coffee+Maker+Wakes+U
Is that seriously the first time you've heard of coffee pods Swag? They've been around for quite a while. No sign of failure yet. Corporations love em. Not a perfect cup of coffee, but ya push a button and it's there. Yay for convenience. :)

This is absolutely retarded. That coffee delivery systems have borrowed a model of consumer hacking from the ink jet printer world is beyond embarrassing -- it's just plain idiotic.
Any coffee format that borrows from the world of ink jet printers is doomed to failure. I won't even get into all the environmental waste that goes into making individual pods to begin with.
