We have been saving our soda cans now for the past two years and it has been rewarding in several ways. First we do feel good because we are helping the environment and our kids do learn how recycling can help the environment. Secondly we were motivated by the extra money we can make by selling our soda cans to a recycler.

I have a simple and common set-up in our garage with a can crusher on the wall. After being crushed the cans go into a big black trash bag. We usually collect about five big bags of crushed cans each season.

The last time we sold our soda cans to the recycler we made about $5 per bag of cans. That was last season before the economy went south. This time when we went to sell our cans we had five bags and only got $10 and some change. I sold my cans for a whopping 0.20 cents per pound. Needless to say I was disappointed about what I earned. I think next time I will call ahead and find out how much I can sell them for before I let the works unload my cans.

Well it was $10 that I didn't have before and we are helping the environment. Is it worth it to recycle your cans? We think so. If you want to make more than 0.20 cents per pound selling your cans then just hold on to them until the price goes up and then cash them in.
