Passive House- Green Sustainable & Energy Efficient
62Green, Sustainable and Energy Efficient
Will more Home Builders begin to focus on building the “Passive House” here in the United States? Over all, the “Passive House” seems to have proven itself to be green, energy efficient and sustainable.
Originated in Europe the “Passivhaus” was designed to create an extremely energy efficient home with standards that can represent a 70-90 percent decrease in energy use by focusing on heavy insulation, air tightness, ventilation and windows. Also using a ventilation system that provides good indoors air quality, and by placing windows to maximize solar gain. Some of the other elements include the design of the home, and the placement of shade is used where possible. The “Passivhaus” requires little to none, when it comes to heating and cooling.
There are only an estimated 15,000- 20,000 passive homes built worldwide with a very low number of these homes built in the United States.
Although the “Passive House” may be more ideal for some climates than others, with some adjustments it seems to be the idea home.
