Animal Hoarding
51Animal Hoarding
Animal Hoarding, It seems that every neighborhood has a cat lady or someone who takes in every stray or every pet that is being given away. These people, many of them claim to be animal rescuers, and have many animals housed in their home, apartment,or trailer, living in poor unsanitary conditions, infested with fleas and illness. In most cases these animals never get medical care or enough to eat and many are never discovered until someone reports it to the officials.
The professionals all say that animal hoarding is a mental illness and these people need help which may be very true but what about the poor dogs or cats having to live in that type of condition. What about the animals?
Myself being involved in animal welfare I have seen case after case of these people with countless animals living in such deplorable conditions thinking in their mind that they are properly caring for these animals, giving them a home and loving them but in reality the animals suffer, and rescue organizations have to come in and many many of these animals when they are found are in such bad shape they don't make it.
Which brings the question of what to do with the hoarder? Should they be charged with animal abuse and neglect and go to jail? Or should they be made to get treatment and not ever be able to have any animals? Or perhaps jail and treatment? I don't know. I do think they should be ordered not to ever have animals again but other then that I don't know what we can do to protect animals from them doing it all over again.
If you have a neighbor,a friend, or a relative, that is or you think is a animal hoarder then do the right thing for the animals and for them and turn it in to the proper authorities.
