Beta/Game Testers

Previously, I had mentioned a few ways that scams can appear. Here are a some that people may or may not know about.

Craigslist/Facebook Ads/etc ads about being a game beta tester (and being paid for it). This sounds too good to be true, right? 90% of the time, it is. Normally what these ads do is basically say something about needing game beta testers and that people will get paid to play. Then people provide their email and they are sent an email thanking them for their interest, saying spots are first-come first-served, and provide "beta links" and asks the people to email someone their username.

This isn't how beta testing (usualy) works. In closed beta testing, people usually get a key one way or another (through the company themselves, not through other sites), and they are almost always never paid. In open beta testing, everyone can test the game for free, and they don't get paid anything, maybe some exclusive items when the full version is released, but nothing more.

When in doubt, check the game or the company the ads are mentioning. Most of them are fake companies, advertising real games. If there are the names of the games that they are advertising people to be paid to test, check out the game's official site to see if there is anything regarding being paid to test the game out.

Remember, if opportunities like this sounds too good to be true, they probably are.
