Just a few, short years ago, hardly anyone knew who Ashlee Simpson was. She'd had a small recurring role on "7th Heaven" and then we knew she was Newlywed star Jessica Simpson's younger sister. When it was first announced that Ash would have her own MTV reality show, the general consensus was that no one would ever take her seriously as a singer. Her show did surprisingly well, even earning a second season. I remember being pleasantly surprised by how entertaining the show was... and even a couple of her songs off her freshman album were catchy. Then came the SNL flub where she stalked off stage in embarrassment when it became apparent she had planned to lip sync. With all of the hub-bub surrounding Big Sis Jess's separation and divorce from Nick Lachey, Ash kinda took a back seat. For a long time, it seemed like we only ever saw her attached at the hip to one of her boyfriends, seeming to have no real life of her own. Then she slowly started creeping back on the entertainment scene in her own right, even doing stage work in the London showing of "Chicago". When her engagement to Pete Wentz was announced in April, the pregnancy rumors quickly followed. Mr. Wentz first said this was some sort of witch hunt, where paps and gossip writers were just trying to create a scandal where there was none. Well, a few days ago they revealed what we all were pretty sure we already knew-- she's having a baby! The news was revealed on Wentz's friendsorenemies website with the explanation that they had wanted to wait until Ms. Simpson made it to the 3-month mark in her fertilized state. So congrats to the Wentzes... but now how about an apology for comparing us to witch hunters? Hmmm? Oh yeah, let me hold my breath. ;)
