Scary Halloween Food You've Never Considered
84Holy Night of Indigestion, Bat Man!
If you enjoy horror-themed parties, scaring your family at the dinner table, or simply being a bit odd when you want to be, you can easily enjoy these simple recipes. Invent your own 7-day menu for the week of Halloween and watch folks run away from your house - you won't have to purchase candies and treats to pass out in the streets. What fun!
Of course, the scariest foods are those made by someone that simply does nto know how to cook! As Joe Flaherty as the Count - Count Floyd - on Second City TV's movie time segment used to splutter - That's REAL scary, Kids!"
Atomic Green Punch
Made by Jack Pumpkin’s mad scientists visiting in Bobby Boris Picket’s laboratory, just for you.
ELEMENTS
- 12 oz Can if frozen orange juice – partially thawed
- 12 oz Can of Frozen white grape juice – partially thawed
- 1 2-litre bottle of 7-Up or Tonic Water [for an adult party, use Half Vodka, Half 7-Up for an Atomic Vodka-Seven]
- 1 Pint of green or yellow Sherbet (lemon, lime, combination)
- Some green food coloring
- Several clean plastic toy atrocities to float on the top. Think Bag O' Bugs from Big Lots.
PARTICLE ACCELERATION
- First, completely mix the frozen orange juice, frozen grape juice, 7-Up Tonic Water, and sherbet, with several drops of green food coloring in a large punch bowl.
- Float toys on top and serve.
- For a larger amount of punch, double the recipe.
Demon Candy Imposters!
Scary Candy
I'll tell you some scary food - CIRCUS PEANUTS!
My father enjoyed them as a kid when he worked around the elephants the week the circus came to town, so he thought I'd like the "candy" too. Unfortunately, I was coming down with pneumonia and German measles at the time and they made me regurgitate all over the sofa, which needed promptly to be destroyed. Very scary, indeed.
I cringe when I see them in the grocery store. They need a Hazardous materials warning sign.
Circus Peanuts are ANCIENT as a confection, developed during the 1800s. Circus Peanuts at first were sold only during the spring, because producers had concerns about the stability of the product the rest of the year. In the 1940s, plastics for packaging and new manufacturing technologies made it possible to torture people with the baby-aspiring-tasting things all year long. Actually, they contain banana flavoring and nothing orange at all, except for the coloring. They are puffed-up hardened banana-flavored marshmallows dyed orange.

Less Scary - The Orange Marshmallow.
Using the following recipe, you can make orange marshmallows that taste quite good. With a little food coloring mixing, you can make black marshmallows as well and have both colors for Halloween or an October birthday. Or, you can make dark brown chocolate marshmallows with cocoa powder.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 1/2 Tablespoons unflavored gelatin (3 envelopes)
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup or Honey
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 Tablespoons pure vanilla extract
- orange food coloring (or mix red and yellow get orange)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
PREPARATION
- Cooking spray a 9×13″ pan and coat it with powdered sugar. You can color the powdered sugar with a little orange flavored Jello, if you wish.
- Combine gelatin and 1/2 cup cold water in a bowl of and whisk. Let the gelatin bloom by leaving it to sit about 15 minutes
- Combine sugar, corn syrup, salt, and 1/2 cup water in a medium size pot over low heat and stir until the sugar has dissolved.
- Using a candy thermometer, increase heat to high.
- Cook the syrup without stirring until mixture reaches 244 degrees F. It will bubble. Immediately remove the pan from the heat when the thermometer reads 244.
- Using an electric mixer or by hand, slowly drizzle syrup into the softened gelatin while mixing.
- After mixing, beat faster for 10 minutes, adding food coloring until it is dark enough. It should be very thick and large in volume before you stop mixing. Then add in the vanilla and beat well.
- Pour mixture into sugared pan and spread evenly with a spatula that is cooking sprayed.
- Dust the top with powdered sugar and let stand overnight, uncovered.
- Next day, dust a cutting board with powdered sugar (you can make it orange with Jello again) and turn the giant marshmallow out onto the board. Cut into squares with a sharp knife or use holiday cookie cutters to make shapes. Dip cut sides in the powdered sugar as well and serve.
- Store in air-tight container.
The next recipe is disgusting looking, but delicious and will thrill the kids - many adults too. Serve it with the Atomic Green Punch. Enjoy!

How to Make A FrankenRat Cake
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Box of your favoriteChocolate Cake mix
- 1 Tube of Red Gel icing for filling
- Black or Chocolate licorice for the tail
- Cinnamon Red Hot candies for eyes
- Coconut Flakes for whiskers
- Nut Chips or Slivered Almonds for claws and teeth
- Chocolate frosting
Creating the FrankenRat
- Get a toy rat, wash it and cover with aluminum foil to form a mold. Make several foil molds and spray them well with cooking spray.
- Form extra foil "pegs" to prop the molds up on the cookie sheet.
- Preheat oven to temperature on the cake mix box.
- Mix the cake.
- Spray the inside of aluminum molds with cooking oil and fill with cake batter.
- Place on cookie sheets with the foil legs to prop them up, batter side up, and bake according to directions.
- Remove from oven, let cool, and pull off the aluminum.
- Trim the bottom of the cake so that the rat is able to rest flat and trim any areas where cake flowed over.
- Using red gel icing from the bottom, insert into middle of rat and squeeze a small amount to make an ooey-gooey "blood and guts" filling. LOL
- Insert licorice in the rear for a tail.
- Frost rats with chocolate icing and use a long-timed fork or a couple of toothpicks held together to draw ridges for scruffy hair on the bodies.
- Put the Red Hots on the faces for eyes, attach coconut flakes for whiskers, and use nuts for claws and teeth.
