66Scholarships for single mothers are sometimes a necessity for single moms who want to go back to school. Taking care of children and paying bills can present a serious financial strain. Simply trying to feed a family and stay in your home may be a challenge – adding college fees and less time to work might be impossible. This is while there are many single mother college scholarships out there that can allow single moms to go to college.
It’s fairly easy to qualify for single mother college scholarships, but you have to first meet the criteria for application. Eligible mothers must be in extremely needy financial situations to qualify.
When applying for this type of scholarship, the rule of thumb is that the less money you have, the more money you get.
There are many different sources of these scholarships for single moms – government programs and private scholarships. One of such programs is the Fleming Associates Young Parents Program.
The government itself will give out extra grant funding to mothers who want to pursue a college education. They offer something called an academic competitiveness grant. To qualify for this, single mothers must meet the following criteria:
- You must prove you have been through challenging courses during high school
- You must have graduated after 2005
- Any students who qualify for the Pell grant also will qualify for the academic Competitiveness Grant.
Another organization that can provide college scholarships for single mothers is The Nation. This non profit organization will help a mother repay loans and the will also give out scholarships to single mothers to help pay for college. The only qualification is to be a single mother. This organization helps mothers to repay loans. They also provide college scholarships to single moms so that mothers can complete college easily. Being a single parent actually helps you to avail these benefits. FAFSA rewards students (single moms) for an excellent effort in academics. For academic competitiveness grant, there are following criteria that need to be fulfilled.
If scholarship funding is not enough, you can always seek out special student loans for single mothers. There are lenders that offer these types of loans and you can easily find more information on their websites. It’s best to do some serious research on the internet, first, before pursuing any private student loans to go to school.
These single mother scholarships can really help out mothers who want to go to college. Getting one of these scholarships can mean the difference between going to college and not going to college. Note that applying for these scholarships genially costs about 20 bucks or so for the application.
