Scientology: A cult of lies
59In the Early 1950s a man by the name of L. Ron Hubbard published a series of writings known as "Dianetics" and formed his own religion based on his writings. He had said in a past interview that if you want to make money, start a religion. He lived out his idea of making money by starting Scientology. Scientology has grown into one of the richest religious organizations in America today and is slowly having a large impact on the world society. But why is this one of the richest organizations in the world today, and why is it so secretive? Another question which must be raised is Why have their been so many suspicious deaths of people who have either left the church or have highly protested the church's actions. This Hub is here to find out the truth, and to discover the secrets behind this cult of lies.
First we must start with the founder, L. Ron Hubbard. He was born Mach 13, 1911 in Tilden, Nebraska. He started his early career as a western and science fiction writer. Hubbard produced over 600 stories, articles and books in his life time. And sold a total of 50 million copies of his writings. But after the 1940s something in him changed. He went from great writer to religious philosopher, seemingly over night. What was produced from this was a synthesis of Eastern religious beliefs and modern psychology. The product was Scientology. His book Dianetics: the modern science of mental health explained his philosophy of the human mind being blocked from it's full potential by traumatic emotional memories called "engrams". Mr. Hubbard's Philosophy soon became a full religion drawing in many wealthy people including Hollywood actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta. But what was this man really after, it is obvious that when he died he had racked up a large estate, estimated at tens of millions of dollars, which was given to the church of Scientology. It is believed by many that he had created Scientology for the sole purpose of making money, based on the quote "writing for a penny a word is ridiculous, if a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion". His idea of a "clear being" did resemble a lot of the super hero like characters in his science fiction novels and he encouraged his followers to believe in their "unlimited" mental power. Hubbard was brought to an end, by a stroke in 1986 January 27th. His followers said he had obtained a state so pure that the body was no longer needed for Hubbard anymore.
Now that we have a background on the founder, let us look at the secrets of the Scientology church. From the very beginning it has been a controversial organization. With members being accused of brainwashing, tax evasions, and theft of government property. The church charges members to take courses designed to "help" them attain the "clear" state, which forces people to fork over hundreds of thousands of dollars. And many people have been killed who have left the church. The church also has a "disconnection" policy which forces members of the church to disconnect from members of the family who oppose the church or leave the church.
It is clear that what ever this church is hiding, it has kept it's secrets well hidden and well kept. Many ex-scientologists are either afraid to speak out against the church or simply did not delve too deep into the teachings to understand the full range of beliefs in Scientology. For those who have revealed some of the secrets and treachery within Scientology have died shortly after under very suspicious circumstances or have been sued for Slander against the church.
It is obvious that the church of Scientology is lying to the public and that it has something to hide. With all the media coverage focused on the War in Iraq, no one really pays much mind to the quiet religious sect headquartered in L.A. So they are able to go about their deceitful business unnoticed, but eventually they will be exposed for what they are. A made up religion that has become a cult that is after one thing, the wallets and minds of the American people.
