Why a Scooter

Because they're fun. And they get 80-100 MPG. They are much easier to drive than a traditional motorcycle, and they're starting to become pretty trendy.

In some cases, you don't even need a license or registration to own and drive a scooter.

We hope this hub gives you enough info to determine which is the best for you.

50cc Advantages

If you want some fun and convenient transportation without any worries, a 50cc scooter is the way to go. In most states, you don't have to have a license, registration, or insurance. You just get it and go.

The main disadvantage to a 50cc is the top speed, which is normally restricted to 30 MPH. And it's scary to have an impatient semi right on your tail. Terrifying, actually.

The good news is that you can get a local bike mechanic to de-restrict the engine so you can get up to 40-45 MPH, which should be enough to get you around town comfortably. The conversion normally costs about $200 to get done. The acceleration of the scooter will still be slow.

150cc Scooter Advantages

While you will have to register and insure any scooter over 50cc, it might be worth it, depending on your needs.

First, a motorcycle enorsement is not that hard to get. Second, insurance will likely just be around the 10-20 dollars per month area.

A 150cc will go over 60 MPH easy and has greater acceleration. If you want to do any highway driving, you need at least a 150cc engine.

And a helmet is a MUST as these speeds.
