Do you have a mobility scooter or a wheelchair?  If you or someone you know has one then you know that a scooter ramp is a must for a full size or small size van.  These ramps can be complete electrical systems that lift someone into a vehicle, or they can be lightweight ramps that you can just drive your scooter up onto.  This page is dedicated to help you select the perfect type of ramp for your situation.

Wheel Chair Ramp

Wheel chair ramps are a great accessory to any vehicle as it helps someone with a disability become even more mobile. These ramps are available in a wide variety of different styles and designs. These ramps are mainly made of steel, aluminum, and fiberglass. These ramps are very portable and fold up or collapse to take minimal space in the vehicle it is installed in. Some of these ramps can be folded up so small that they can be the size of a suitcase.

These ramps can usually take a weight load of up to 800 pounds. Telescopic ramps are normally lightweight and are very easy to carry and set up. Aluminum ramps are very heavy and not as easy to install. Fiberglass single fold ramps are light and easy to set up but are also the most expensive.

Scooter Ramps

Moist businesses have a handicap wheelchair access ramp which is easily usable for someone with a mobility scooter.  The main reason you would need a ramp is to get into and out of your car to drive places.  These scooter ramps come in two different forms.

Fold able scooter ramps are usually lightweight and can be folded up several times to minimize the space it takes up in your vehicle.  These scooters are primarily made of steel, fiberglass, or aluminum and are pretty inexpensive compared to motorized ramps.  The draw back to these fold able ramps is that you have to actually go through the work of unfolding it and setting it up each and every time you get out or into a vehicle.

If you have the money, a motorized ramp system is the fastest and easiest option for mobility.  These systems are made of steel and aluminum but require no set up or take down.  They are also much faster for mobility as you can get into and out of your car in a matter of seconds instead of minutes.

Vehicle Ramp Types

Siding Door Van Ramps -  Siding door van ramps are an excellent solution if you are looking for a ramp that can fold up and store inside the vehicle when the ramp is not being used. Siding door van ramps fold into quarters leaving half of the door opening accessible when in the upright position.

Back Door Ramps -  Back door ramps are usually three section manually operated aluminum ramps that are dependable and inexpensive. Operation is simple when spring assisted making these ramps easily operated by a single individual.

Hitch Mount Ramps - Hitch mount ramps attach to the rear of vehicles equipped with a rear hatch or barn-style doors, such as SUVs and minivans.Easy to use folding, low-profile design makes this type of ramp perfect for maximizing cargo space. These are the easiest ramps to install. Since these ramps usually cover up the license plate on most vehicles a place to re-mount the license plate on the back of the ramp is provided.
