I picked up a New York Times newspaper yesterday. Normally, I don’t read the New York Times during the week figuring if any news was important enough it would be on the computer or my local news. But, while I was picking up milk in the grocery store an article caught my eye. The front-page article was titled “For Explorer Scouts, Good Deeds Have Whole New Meaning”. I quickly skimmed over the article and brought it home to give it a more thorough read. The gist of it is that the explorer scouts (a coeducational affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America) are now being trained to chase down illegal border-crossers, face down terrorists and take out “active shooters”.

I found the article chilling, not only because no good has ever come of arming, training and giving this kind of authority to children but also because it had a strong resemblance to historical groups like the Hitler Youth and other communist groups like Pol Pot or Mao Tse-Tung. They also used children to round up people, imprison and eventually kill them. Why did they use children? Children are used because they don’t have the reasoning facility that adults have and are easily trained and controlled.

One of the reasons these people want to use children is because they can control them. I recently wrote a hub about “Oathkeepers”, a group that is comprised mostly of police officers and military, (http://hubpages.com/hub/To-Protect-and-to-Serve). They swear to uphold the constitution even if they are given direct orders to violate it from their superiors. Children do not have the wherewithal to disobey unethical or immoral orders and that is why they are being trained in this way. At no time in history has the training of children for military or law enforcement purposes benefited society. This must be stopped. I implore you; if you have kids in the Boy Scouts call them and voice your opposition to this new trend, if they wont listen remove your kids from the organization. We must stop this before it gets out of hand, for no good can come of it.
