Board games are a great way to bring together friends and family for some good clean fun. But let's face. In the end we all want to be the winner. For the average scrabble player winning at scrabble seems to be the luck of the draw. Randomly picking the right letters to make familiar words and every once in awhile catching on to a great word set and maximizing the triple word score.

Scrabble really isn't a random win by luck game anymore the Poker is. The real way to win is to learn the techniques the pros use to encourage better word scores and discourage your opponents from leading the way.

1. Know The Game Board So You Don't Leave Your Opponent Open

Familiarize yourself with the game board and the location of the different bonus squares. When in play, if your letter squares make it possible to make more then one word possiblities on your turn, consider the counter play of your opponent. Play your hand like Chess. If your two different words are close in points consider laying down the lower points if it means avoiding opening up a good bonus square for your opponents next turn.

2. COUNT COUNT COUNT In Your Head

When your up to bat and your trying to decide what letters to lay down always look for the best score and not the best squares. This may seem obvious but if you are determined to hit that triple letter score just because it's open you may leave your self with lesser points by not considering laying down a different word without the bonus spot even though it will generate a higher score.

Of course you will want to take in considerate that the double or triple word scores could throw your game. If these are available to you they are available to your opponent and the defensive move of blocking can be of just as much advantage as going for just a great score somewhere else.

3. Learn The 2 Letter Words.

What two letter words do you know? on, at, of, or, an? Did you know there are actually many many more?? The following 101 two letter cominations are actual words and acceptable in Scrabble Play.

Scrabble rules state you must play at least a 3 letter word, so why would you ever need to know these? Because the trick to making words is not playing off of just one letter but playing off many. Take the word, MANY for example. If I saw this in game play I would take advantage of the two - letter words and make YOGA.

I could have just used the bottom Y and started there not even needing the Y in my tray. But by playing off of MANY the way I did I not only get points for YOGA but also MO, AG, and NA.

Learn em, Love em ,Live em. Learning to maximize your scrabble play by incorporating 2 letter words is one of the best ways a average scrabble player can get in the game and get the win every time.

4. Play Online

Practice is always going to be your best strategy for winning any game. Scrabble is no different. Find an online scrabble game and join in. Learn the community etiquette rules and play fair. Challenge yourself to not use the two-letter word list to assist your game play but realize that your opponent is either using them as well, or has already memorized them after many many game plays. Playing online will give you the advantage over even your smartest family member or friend because you will have greater experience in actual Scrabble game play....
