The screen of green (SCROG) method is used when height and wattage are a consideration. A screen, usually of poultry wire netting, is attached at a desired height above the plants. This allows the growing plants to begin to grow horizontally after reaching the height limit, thus keeping the canopy, or height, at an even level, which allows consistent light penetration into the growing plants. Many growers have a consistent high yield using this method. A scrog nutrient used to supply the proper nutrients that plants under this method need in order to thrive.
The scrog nutrient that is supplied to the plants also uses a growing medium which then delivers the nutrients to the plants being cultivated. This is any type of hydroponic nutrient that is supplied in the different stages of plant development. With this type of indoor gardening method, timing is also very critical. This means that you must be around the vegetative period to guide the growth under the screen, and to make sure all gaps in the screen are filled, one bud site per screen hole with standard poultry netting (2 x 3 inch holes). Excess leaf growth must be removed above the screen, which usually means all the fan leaves are removed.
