Scuba Fins
52The purpose of scuba fins
The creation of Dive fins has become a science. Scuba diving without scuba fins is almost impossible. Scuba diving fins increase the foot's propelling surface enabling the scuba diver to move through the water more effeciently and greater thrust through the water.. When you are all geared up with all your equipment moving through the water can be almost impossible and extremely tiring.Scuba fins enable you to move about in the water and free up your hands. The right pair of scuba fins will allow you to go further and swim faster using the l muscles in your thighs. There are many scuba fins available on the market today, and it is essential to chose the scuba diving fins to suit yourself.
Choosing your Dive fins
When purchasing dive fins you will notice that they come in varying sizes similar to shoes. It is essential that they fit like your shoes ie; not too tight so they are pinching, but not too large or they will be kicked off during your dive.If you plan to wear scuba booties then you must try your fins on whilst wearing your scuba booties to ensure the correct fit
Most scuba divers prefer scuba fins with an adjustable strap, these are larger and longer than snorkelling fins, thus providing more thrust pushing the diver together with the diving gear they are wearing through the water. Scuba fin straps should be attached on both sides with quick release buckles. This will allow the divers foot to easily slip out when they are loosened.
Types of dive fins
Whilst there are many makes of scuba fins and snorkeling fins on the market, they can be categorised in three groups.Long blade free diving fin which is longer than other scuba diving fins, these are more usually used by free divers.Open Heel scuba fin these can be purchased with adjustbble straps or spring straps. These fins allow the use of dive booties. These scuba fins also tend to be slightly larger than Full foot scuba fins popular with divers in warm water because they are lighter and smaller tha open heel scuba fins.
