Search Engine Marketing Campaigns...Strategy

Simple search engine optimization and search engine marketing tips will get rankings on internet search engines but first you need to know how to do a search engine submission, what a search engine is and some optimization tips to help you get on top of a search engine list.

A search engine is your web browser such as Google, Yahoo, MSN Live, AOL and Bing, the new yahoo/msn search engine. When someone is using a search engine, you submit a phrase or word that you want to look up on the internet and the SE provides a list of all sites that contain the information you are looking for.

Your goal is to get your site or pages at the top of the list so that people will see you. Being buried on any page after page 3 seems sorta hopeless. Most people will not move past the 2nd page unless they are searching for images in which case they might make it past page 5, if...if the pictures are not being duplicated.

Online Marketing can be a tedious task at first but if you really want to get there, you really have to do your research. You need to know who you are targeting as your audience, you need to know what is selling, you need to understand the dynamics of the site you are working on, what the competition is like and what the Online Marketing Trends are.

What Wont Work

I get the feeling that some people come into the world of internet marketing believing that their site is going to be the best site in the whole entire world and "if you write it, they will come", and it's not true. Maybe there are a few people in the world who just got plain lucky but for the rest of us it doesn't work that way.

It doesn't work to submit a few key word terms into your SEO widget either. Nope, in fact. Every page you write on the internet gets indexed. What I mean by this is; you do not have to go to find a special form to submit your work unless you are building your own website and want it to rank in a specific search engine.  Using a site like HubPages does it for you. Once you have published your work it has already been submitted somewhere on the internet. However, if you don't listen to the tips I am going to give you then all I can say is... if it is not on the first, second or third page it might as well not exist unless you are using a networking site which I will get to in second because that is a different story.

The Single Most Important Tip I Can Give You.

The most important tip is the one that most newbies to the Internet Marketing World ignore because it is time consuming, it takes patience, and it takes a creative writing flair to make it work. It's called doing a good key word search.

Some folks may disagree, they say things like, "no you need to use social networking sites to get traffic etc." This is only partly true but I will be honest only about 2% of any traffic comes from them. You know how much traffic you would have to get to make any real money? Millions! I am not kidding. If you are a third party marketer and are trying to make money using Google AdSense, you would literally have to have thousands, millions of visitors to even make $100.00 if your content is not in demand.

People who do that are those who submit their articles into blog feeders and social networking sites and they use 40-50-100 of them and you have to split your profits with all of them. To me, that's just ridiculous. By all means do it if you want to go that route which takes much longer and gets less money then doing a key word search.

Why?

Because when you use these sites for the sole purpose of getting traffic, you are either going to get a hundred viewers which might give you, oh I don't know 1 cent because they are just browsing. It's like window shopping. You might get 1 out of 100 who will buy by an accidental stumble (which is good) but people who really want to find something do a web search.

As I told you already, they type in what they are looking for and those are the people who are more likely to buy because it is what they want. So while you might not see a lot of traffic to your page, the ones that do come, come for the purpose of buying.

This is the importance of a good keyword search. Key word searches alone, if done well, will get you to the first page of a search engine. However, you should find out how many people are actually looking for what you are writing about. If you are writing about yellow monkeys you might make it the front page but how many people are actually looking for that?

These are the questions your really need to ask yourself if you really want to make money marketing online.

The Second Most Imprtant Tip I Can Give You.

Creative writing. Your originality counts. Just as a person searching for pictures will stop looking when they notice all the pictures are the same...why keep going? So, now if you have done a good key word search now all you have to do is make your content readable using all those keywords you found.

  • Tip: This is not hard if you know what you are talking about. Don't try to write about something you know nothing about for two reasons. 1. People aren't stupid and 2nd, the ones that are, are being fed false information and false information is bad, bad, bad. It's bad for your reputation, it's bad for the world, and it's bad for whomever you are advertising for and bad for the sites you are writing on.
  • Tip: Back link, backlink, backlinks. Back linking is how you drive good traffic without social networking sites. If someone is genuinely interested in what you have to say, they will keep reading and they will stay with you especially if the information you are providing is good and valuable.

This not only improves your rankings, it improves your sales. If you really want to make a sale, you will need several articles talking about the same thing all leading to your sales page. If they followed you all the way there then chances are they will actually buy. If they did an engine search planning to buy but they didn't find what they were looking for, they have no choice but to leave because you didn't back link.

You just lost your potential buyer and you don't know if they will ever come back. You don't know if they will come back because 1. they might not remember your name 2. they didn't find what they were looking for in the first place. You need to give your viewers options without letting them go.

So if you are writing good quality lead pages, stories, sales pages etc... they will stay with you. The better your marketing strategy is, the better off you will become.

  • Tip: In the first paragraph of your article you want to explain what it is about using those key words. This is what people will read when deciding whether or not your page contains the information they are looking for.

And finally, be patient. It takes time to crawl up to the first page of a search engine. However, if you are building backlinks and leads and are getting people to your page and they are buying then the search engine entities know that whatever is contained in your page is good and if you are making money, then they are making money. Just know though, if you are cheating the system, they will find out.

Think about.

Very impressive and informative Sandra you are on fire for sure. Very true about it taking time. You start with one step and just keep on keeping on. For some people it can take a year or so before they start seeing consistent regular traffic from SE's. Using social networking and social bookmarking traffic is just something on the side, a way to connect. Good read.

I'm holding you to that, Sandra! I am an admitted old dog. Keywords, backlinking, RSS -- all Greek to me. But I am determined to master these new tricks of the writing trade! Thanks for a thoroughly informative hub. MM

Liked it! This in other words I can say that you have spoken about SEO. I too have a series of four Hubs where I have tried to cover almost everything that could be related to SEO. Just see if you can manage time for the same. I feel you will like it!

Hi paperback. I don't want to cover everything about SEO just the really important stuff. I figure when people apply what I have written and see the results, they will get excited enough to figure out the rest on their own. In which case, learning the basics is enough to rest.

Absolutely awesome! the greatest tip is spot on! we use a number of keyword research tools when we do our optimization and it is fascinating to see how much better your page ranks and the traffic you generate from that with just an hour or so of research and planning. Great hub as always Sandra :)
