Second coming
611st Resurrection
How do we define the second "coming" of Jesus Christ? There are many passages foretelling the coming of the Messiah.
Jesus was born sometime between 7 and 2 BC. His 33 years on earth are considered as his first coming. Jesus spoke many times concerning his going away and his return. Scholars teach that Jesus was crucified upon the cross in either 26, 28 or 30 A.D. It is written that Herod the Great attempted to have the baby Jesus killed. Herod died in either 1 or 4 B.C. The angel of God told Joseph to take Mary and the baby Jesus, and flee to Egypt, until the angel tells them that it is safe to return. When Joseph heard of the death of Herod the Great, he brought his family back to Nazareth. I would think that it was at least a few years after the birth of Jesus before Herod died. Jesus was 30 years of age when he began his ministry and died three and a half years later. Unless Jesus was only months old when Hared died we will have to discount the year 33 as the year of his crucifixion. The first coming of the Messiah would have been some time between the years 7 BC and 30 AD.
The 1st century followers of Christ believed that Jesus was going to come again in their lifetimes. Why would they believe this? Could it be because Jesus told his disciples that he would? ( Luke 9:27) "But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death till they see the kingdom of God." Luke 9:18 states that Jesus was talking to his disciples when he said this. There are many arguments stating that this verse does not refer to His second coming, but that the kingdom of God came when Jesus was crucified. I would argue with them on the grounds that in Matt. 16: 27 & 28 Jesus says "For the son of man shall come in the glory of his father WITH HIS ANGELS; and then he shall reward every man according to his works". Does this not sound like Jesus is talking about "THE SECOND COMING?" as we would call it? Yes it does. In this same conversation,Jesus continues, " Verily I say unto YOU, there be some standing HERE which shall not taste of death till they see the son coming in his kingdom." If we are uncomfortable with this scripture should we INTERPRET this verse to mean something other than what would otherwise seem to be a clearly stated fact. NOT! Let us now review another statement that Jesus made concerning His returning in his power. In Matt.27:64 Jesus is before the priests being questioned, the night before his crucifixion. "Thou hast said, nevertheless I say unto YOU, hereafter YE shall see the son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven". This story is repeated by Mark in chapter 14:62. Jesus was talking to those priests that were right in front of his eyes. Jesus was not talking to those men about some generation that WILL be, some 1980 years later. Why can we not believe the simply stated words coming out of our Saviors' mouth? The preponderance of evidence is astounding. John 21: 21 & 22, "Peter seeing him (John) saith to Jesus, Lord and what shall this man do?" Jesus said unto him, " If I will that he tarry, till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me." It sounds as though Jesus told Peter that John was going to still be alive upon his coming again. It is commonly believed that John received the Revelation of Jesus Christ, while on the Isle of Pat mos around the year 94 A.D. It is believed that John died about four years after the prison was closed and all of the prisoners were released. Jesus had said that John was going to tarry until he came? Did Jesus come before 98 AD? YES he did. He said that He would and I believe He did. Jesus came to John on the Isle of Pat mos and gave John the Revelation. This was the time of his second coming. (Rev. 1:1) The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him, to shew unto His SERVANTS, (plural) things which must SHORTLY come to pass. Could this event be that which Gabriel foretold to Daniel? It shall be 69 weeks (from 538 BC) unto Messiah the Prince. And after 62 weeks (from 538 BC) the messiah shall be cut off (killed). The 1st century believers thought that Jesus was coming back seven weeks after the crucifixion. This is why the people were becoming impatient and were asking 'WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG FOR Jesus to come again? The people were told that they do not understand. A day for the Lord is like a year for us. I can show why I believe that a year to the Lord (in prophetic time) is like 1.3 of our years. That would have sounded strange had the disciples expressed themselves in that way. The Lord created time and is not captured by it. He is not a slave to any of his creations. I would suspect that all of his creations are caught up in some kind of time line. If we are to have a general life expectancy, then we are caught up in time.
Now let me explain where I came up with this "blasphemous" statement concerning a week equaling 1.3 of our years. Daniel 1:1 identifies the year that the events recorded in this chapter occurred. The first year of Darius appointed king over the realm of the Chaldean's. In 539 B.C. on Oct 15th, Cyrus and his army, marched triumphantly into Babylon, seizing all of the territories previously controlled by Babylon. In the first year of Darius ( 538 BC) Daniel understood after reading the writing of Jeremiah that the people of Jerusalem shall serve the king of Babylon for 70 years. Daniel has been serving the king for over 67 years and understood that this was soon to change and Daniel started praying and making supplications. In verse 21 Daniel was still praying when he saw Gabriel (whom he had seen in a vision earlier) coming to him swiftly. Verse 22 Gabriel said, " O Daniel I have come forth to give thee skill and understanding." Gabriel did not say that he had come to present a puzzle to be pondered upon for centuries to come. Gabriel has come to give Daniel skill and understanding!!! Verse 23, "At the beginning of thy supplications THE COMMANDMENT came forth." Verse 25, "KNOW THEREFORE AND UNDERSTAND THAT FROM THE GOING FORTH OF THE COMMANDMENT to restore and to build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks;and three score and two weeks. Verse 26, "And after three score and two weeks shall messiah be cut off." Scholars do not want to say that the command which Gabriel says has gone forth is the same commandment to restore and build Jerusalem. That is an overabundance of skepticism. Why would they not be one and the same? To answer their skepticism I will refer them to Ezra 1:1 Cyrus king of Persia makes a decree that "the God of heaven has charged him to build him a house in Jerusalem which is in Judea". The skeptical mind will again argue that Cyrus was commanded to build a house and not to restore and build Jerusalem. And then I would counter by referring them to Isiah 44:25,25,26,&27, " ..I am the Lord that ..." v 28, "that saith of Cyrus, he is my shepherd, and shall perform all of my pleasure, even saying to Jerusalem thou shalt be built..." The Lord said this at least 150 years before Cyrus made his decree and commanded the Chaldean's to release all of the Hebrews that wanted to return to Jerusalem and rebuild it. In 538 B.C. the angel of the Lord told Daniel that the Messiah shall be cut off after 62 weeks. Five hundred and sixty four six or eight years later, Jesus was crucified. Sixty two prophetic weeks is the same as 564 566 or 568 of our years. A week would equal approx. 9.1 to 9.6 of our years - sixty nine weeks unto Messiah the Prince. Seven weeks (7x 9.16= approx 64 of our years) after the Messiah was cut off which brings us to 94 AD. In 94 A.D. God gave the Revelation to Jesus and told Jesus to give it to His servants. Jesus came to His servant John and gave the Revelation to him. We have no idea just how many other people that Jesus appeared to .
The second coming of Jesus Christ, as described in the sermon of discord, Matt. 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21, was fulfilled in 94 A.D. just as Jesus said that He would, in this sermon. (Mark 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. In Matthew 24:3 it is clearly recorded that this sermon is in fact a PRIVATE conversation with the disciples. In Mark 13:3 it is also recorded that this is a PRIVATE conversation with Peter and James and John and Andrew. It is an important fact that this is a private conversation or this fact would not have been included twice. When Jesus said that ..." And Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of war.. Then shall they deliver YOU up be afflicted .. When Ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel .. V21 For then shall be great tribulation, such was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be". This statement "nor ever shall be", indicates that the world will continue long after this great tribulation is over.
Verse 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven; and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.
Verse 30 And THEN shall appear the sign of the son of man in heaven; and then shall all of the tribes of the earth mourn, and then they shall see the son of man coming in the clouds with power and great glory.
Verse 34 ''VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU,THIS GENERATION SHALL NOT PASS TILL ALL THESE THINGS BE FULFILLED."
Imagine for a moment; If Jesus had a private conversation with you, and foretold your future. He tells YOU of things that YOU were going to see. Imagine that you shared this with all of your friends in a letter. And, a thousand years later someone finds that letter and applies that message that was intended for YOU and they start teachings that it was a message sent to them pertaining for to their future. That is what we are doing when we apply these verses to pertain to us.
We should not interpret scripture to mean something that it does not say, so that we can feel more comfortable. Jesus Christ does not lie. He said that He was coming again. and he did. He said that to THAT generation, who were alive then, that generation shall not pass before he comes again. Before that generation that he was standing in front of, passes away. If we can get past this hurdle, our understanding of the end time prophesy will become clearer. The second coming of Christ came when he said that it would.

Thank you for your coment. I have been intently studying the end time propheys for many years. I believe in the second coming of Christ also. However, I believe that this promise has previously been kept. When watching the news on TV we are watching the Kings of the earth gathering together for Armageddon. If this is true then the first reccurection also is a promise previously kept.
