Comic Book Addict

From the moment I was born, I was a comic book fan, dressing up like Batman, as I walked through downtown San Francisco with my folks...and I still dress up like super heroes as I do household chores. See the video.

Comic stores are a dying breed in the San Francisco Bay Area, there just aren't too many left. But I like reading comics, as a journalist, people expect you to read stacks and stacks of books, I read a lot of comic books. I prefer the binded graphic novels which have like 8 issues of a storyline. The last one I got into was Civil War. And in a way, what happens in comic book story lines, somewhat reflect what's going on in society. I thought Civil War very much mirrored the immigration amnesty debate.

Since Civil War, I haven't been able to frequent the stores too often, that's about 2 years now. With the closest comic book store about 4 miles aways, I have 3 theaters in like a 3 mile radius. So I've seen Iron Man, which I say is my favorite movie ever. For the past month, I've been doing a story on the Barack Obama Spiderman cameo, and all the hoopla it's creating, so this gave me a chance to campout at Coastside Comics in Pacifica, owned by a really cool Filipino dude.

While I was there, I was hearing about the recent Secret Invasion Story line, Spider-Man apparently skipped 20 years, Iron Man is in jail, Harry Osbourne is director of Stark Industries now. So with a Wolverine movie coming out, and the fact I was at a shop, I picked up a few books. I got the Dark Avengers from the Dark Reign Series. Wow crazy stuff. Osbourne recruiting a new Avengers team, filling it up with bad guys...Wolverine's son? Iron Patriot? This is intriguing, So this prompted me to go get the Secret Invasion to get the back story and figure out what's going on. I'm half way through the graphic novel edition, wow interesting stuff. Kind of like reflects America's War on Terror with Skrulls shifting as heroes and infiltrating the country in an attempt to take over the world. This series is spearheaded by my hero, Iron Man of course.

The Marvel Universe has gone through tons of drama lately, that will forever change the universe, so it's worth picking it up. Somewhere along the drama, Spider-Man does save the President, for a good novelty issue. I hear Marvel put the President in there because he's a Spidey fan. So logically, I can conclude, if I become president, maybe Tony Stark will let me wear an Iron Man suit.

Overall, as a fan, I'm excited to see that there are movies coming, though some aren't as great, they give me something to read or watch. The direct to home movies like the Next Avengers, which is a nicely animated cartoon of the future with a geriatric Iron Man and Senior Citizen Hulk, are fun flicks to watch as you plop on the sofa chair. I haven't caught the new Punisher, but I heard it's pretty good, but Wolverine and Watchmen are coming this year, and 2010 will bring Thor, and Captain America...yes according to IMDB those two are in the making in Pre-Prod stages. This will be awesome, especially when Marvel does the tie in and makes...The Avengers Movie.

For now, there's videos I made of me doing house work, and hanging out at the comic book shop, doing the news.
