Both You And Your Baby Needs The Precious Sleep

There is no doubt about it that we humans function much worse when we're sleeping badly. That goes for adults and kids. I have recently experienced this since our son is just 2 months old right now. Luckily I've found lots of tricks and tips to tackle this dilemma. I'm passing these on to you in this article now. Hope you'll find some useful tidbits. And maybe this can help release some frustration and stress.

Yes! We Can Talk With Our Baby

How on earth can this be? Well, when I first found the Dunstan Baby Language I was quite skeptical but after trying it I can tell you I'm completely stunned. You will after reviewing it find out that babies in general have 5 words that they use consistently to signal their needs. You can see to that your loved one gets his/hers needs satisfied during the day and guess what. By doing just that you'll get a very calm and happy baby during the evening which leads to better circumstances on every level. Thought I share this with you before digging in to the practical tips.

Showtime - Bring Out The Action Plan - Time For The Routine

Humans are habitual in nature and so are babies. That's why you have much to gain in creating a soothing bedtime-routine for your precious one. After some repetitions your child will recognize the routine and he/she will be drawn into a funnel that leads to sleep.

  • A good, filling meal is always a great component in a bedtime-routine and will keep the baby from waking up too often in the night.
  • Bathing your child is also very calming, that is if he/she likes taking baths.
  • Brushing teeth for the little older ones.
  • Fresh up on your old singing-abilities. This can work wonders.
  • A cuddly can be very effective having around during the routine which should last no longer than around 20-40 minutes.

When doing the bedtime-routine you will aim for soothing activities, no stimulating or activating stuff. The trick is to induce a sense of slowness and calm into your babys mind. Dim the lights and keep coming up with different things that you notice your child respond well to. When the time comes it's crib-time which can be a frustrating thing to master in the beginning. You'll discover some useful tips on that in the following paragraph.

But It's Soooo Hard To Leave Her In The Crib

A crying baby is always a stressful experience for a parent and during the learning-period when practicing falling asleep alone in the crib this fact is even worse because you will have to push yourself not going into the room or taking your baby up if you sit in the room. One thing that's important when crib-training is the fact that if you lay the little toddler down into the crib awake and he/she learns to fall asleep on their own you have gained so much. So try not to have them fall asleep while nursing or doing some other activity before putting them into the crib. They will be depentant on that if you do. Choose your method which suits you the best. Leaving the room and checking with regular intervals or staying in the room going to the crib in the same intervals. Even if the child cries.

And Voila, He's Awake

The little one will wake up as you probably already know but when that happens there are things that can help. Try having a dim light on if they are uncomfortable with darkness. If you notice that your baby is right on time every night, try setting a quiet alarm for yourself to wake up a bit before and be all ready for your loved one. By doing that you can shorten the minutes awake and even minimizing the risk for tour baby to wake up too hungry. Pro-activity is always key in caring for children. When he/she wakes up there should be quiet, soothing activity. Low voice etc etc. The baby will learn the difference between sleep time and awake time.

Conclusions

Good routines creates a sense of security and familiar feeling. By being pro-active during the day and during the evening gives you great rewards in every field when taking care of your little one. And as always in parenting, nothing is written in stone. Every tip in this article may fail when it comes to your baby. Just kidding! You can't be that unlucky. Keep up the good work! As parent you are the best person in the world for one human-being. Your child!

Cheers

Tomas
